Alaska Air Extends Fall Hawaii Sale
Aug 31, 2009

Alaska Airlines’ Hawaii fares continue to drop while the scope of the deals expand. Their last sale which I wrote about on August 19 has now been extended for purchases through September 10.
I think we will definitely still see cheaper deals appear in these markets, but if you are ready to buy, these are good prices nonetheless.
In this pricing round, upcoming Oakland service deals have now been included. Here are some examples:
Oakland-Kona $189
Seattle – Honolulu $148
Portland – Kona or Kahului $149
- Book online at Alaska Airlines.
- Fares are one way plus tax of approximately $10.
- Dates: Travel by December 16.
- Availability: Excellent. Some Thanksgiving dates are still available for about $25 more each way.
- Advance purchase: 14 days.

HELP!
My wife and I are desparate to find an affordable rate to fly both of us to a wedding on Hawaii (Kohala, HI) the weekend of the Iron Man competion – Oct. 10, 2009.
If I can’t find an affordable plan, I may be going alone and I really want my wife to feel good about going if I can find a good deal. We will be in need of a car, hotel, and round trip the weekend of the Iron Man in Oct. We can be flexable in on the best dates to depart in order to get the best deal. Kohala Club Hotel is $56.00/night includes tax and is real close to the wedding location.
The wedding is on the same Saturday as the tournament. We are both unfamiliar with arranging travel and how best to search for “the best deal”. What search methods are best? When is the best time to look for a good deal?, should we get a package deal or order our room, car, and hotel separately? etc.
We are closest to San Jose International, then Oakland, then San Francisco to make the trip to the airport that will give us the best air fair.
Your suggetions and help are greatly appreciated!!
Mark
Hi Mark,
Obviously we are not travel agents. You can fly for just over $400 on Hawaiian from Oakland, which is the cheaper airport. I like using Priceline for hotels in this economy, but certainly the $56 hotel price isn’t bad (though I have no knowledge of that hotel).
If it were me, I’d buy that now.
Lastly, have a great time, and I know this helps.
Aloha, Jeff
Hi Jeff,
We are going to Kona September 25 and am starting to get nervous about the fares. I don’t see any bargains from LAX. Do you think we should wait it out another week or so?
Thanks,
Jamie
Hi Jamie,
Thanks very much for your comment!
You’re sure right about no deals at the moment. As you may have seen, last year, LAX to Hawaii fares did not come down until October 7. I think we might see them drop earlier than that this year, but perhaps still not in time for your flight.
On the other hand, I’d be surprised to see them go higher. So as long as you’re buying within the advance purchase requirements of the deal you’re look at (most have minimal advance purchase), you should be okay to wait a bit.
Prices are grim. About $550+ via HNL or nearly $700 non-stop (varies some depending on your return date).
Sorry to not have better news, but I hope that helps.
Aloha, Jeff
Hi Jeff,
I am so glad I found your website! We are planning to go to Kona on January 9, 2010, and because this will be a family reunion, we are all trying to get everything organized as soon as possible. My family will be leaving from Connecticut (New York City or Newark, NJ, works out, too), and I have not found any good deals yet. Do you have any suggestions? Should we wait more before we buy our tickets?
Hi Sun,
As you can see on our home page, we’re still featuring the $535 all-inclusive fare from Newark. That is a great deal and I wouldn’t delay in getting it.
Aloha, Jeff
Aloha,
Your site is appreciated by so many. Mahalo nui loa. Though I know it’s early to project, I’m wondering if you have any thoughts or projections for fares around Easter and Spring Break 2010?
Mahalo,
Catherine
Hi Catherine,
I think that if Spring Break deals arise, they will likely be part of this next 60+ day wave of deals we are just starting to see. As you probably noticed, yesterday’s Newark deal went clear through early June 2010.
Aloha and Mahalo,
Jeff
