December 12, 2011. Both Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have excellent fare sales going, starting at just $149 each way. These are mostly valid for travel from just after the New Year through early March. While the island of Maui continues to see the biggest share of sale activity, there’s something good to or from every island.
I had a look at those cities where the carriers are competing and below is a comparison of what’s available from both at this time:
Availability and dates varies by city and carrier. Prices are one way, plus tax. Alaska fares are available as one-way only, while Hawaiian fares are based on round trip.

I was planning to take the family to Maui in late April because it is the only time I can use my super saver miles. I need to buy 1-2 more tickets. What do you forecast ticket prices will do over the next month? I’m trying to decide if we’ll miss out or get a better deal by waiting a bit longer (always the question, right?) We’re flying from Portland, OR.

What’s your prediction for airfare over the next month or so pertaining to costs for late April? We’re trying to decide whether to buy now or wait a few weeks.

Hi Dawn.
Portland/Maui is a very competitive market, so on that basis you can probably wait. On the other hand, it sounds like you’re coordinating things that might make paying a slight premium worth it. I see fares starting at about $430 round trip, all inclusive, which is actually very good.
Aloha,
Jeff

I wish they would do these prices to So Cal. I am planning a KOA to LAX trip sometime in Jan or Feb and everything is in the low $500′s. Do you see any better fares for that now or coming up? I am very open on my dates.
Any new news on Southwest coming this way?

Hi Mark,
The LA market is really stuck at the moment. No one is discounting. I’m not sure if we’ll see anything better by early in the year or not.
Aloha,
Jeff

Caught a glimpse of the two of you at Kauai Sings on Saturday night. It was a wonderful performance!!!
