Are You Missing The Best Hawaii Deals?

Today’s United $100 LA to Hawaii Twitter Fare:

Early this morning (at 6 AM here in Hawaii), United released a Twitter only  (“Tware”) fare of $100 each way (plus tax) between Los Angeles and Honolulu, Kahului or Lihue.  It was available for about one hour.

This served as a reminder to me, that I’m passing along to you, that for last minute deals you need to be on Twitter and Facebook. In this case you also needed a stroke of luck to just happen to be following your Twitter feeds for that hour when the deal was released.

At Beat of Hawaii, we get many comments and even more emails reflecting an inability to obtain the fantastic Hawaii travel deals that we post every week. I’ve talked about it before but I don’t think it can be restated enough:

The very best airfare deals last 24 hours or less.

We’re not talking just okay deals, we’re taking top sales during peak travel dates and other fares that are typically 1/2 or less of normal. These fares may last as little as one hour and of course the best dates go first.

How to stay current on Hawaii travel deals:

Get updates from all of your favorite sites (hopefully that includes ours) using RSS, Twitter and Facebook. These all typically feed far faster than email subscriptions.

You’ll need to do your research and see how different travel companies use these technologies.  Here are two examples.  United pushes their Twitter Twares exclusively on Twitter, where they have 100,000 followers. They rarely use Facebook, where they have only 25,000 fans.  Pleasant Holidays uses both Facebook and Twitter for last minute deals.

Other companies publish the same deals in all three of their feeds (as do we).

  • RSS feed.  Here’s ours.
  • Twitter.  Here’s ours.
  • Facebook.  Here’s ours.

Types of sites that you might want to subscribe to:

  • Airlines that serve your locations
  • Online travel agencies and their subsidiaries
  • Meta search firms
  • Hotels and hotel chains
  • Vacation package providers
  • Last minute deal specialists

Great reminder and thanks for the tip. I’ll get right on this as there’s hardly anything more frustrating than missing a great deal because you found out about it too late.

Aloha, I have written before about how much I love your site (especially the new one). I WANT to use one of the available services to get the instant deals but……I am not computer savy. I need to know that if I sign up for twitter (or whichever) I will not open the door to anything but your info. I don’t want
25 people a day “trying to be my friend”.

Which service do you recommend for just your information?

    Thanks for the help!
    Ane

    Hi Ane,

Which service you use to get travel deals depends on you and how you use technology. If you’re at a computer (or check it) frequently throughout the day, and aren’t already a Twitter or Facebook user (and don’t want to be), a simple way to add deal content might be with iGoogle or MyYahoo. These are services which aggregate (RSS) feed onto a page that can include news and most any other content you like to read. They update almost instantly. You can set one of these to be the “start” page of whatever browser you use to access the internet.

My suggestion is talk with a friend who knows you and understands something about technology who can help sort this out for you. It needn’t be too complicated.

Let me know how it goes, and I’ll try to help too.

    Aloha, Jeff
