We’re seeing the first glimpse of next Fall, Winter and Spring fares and it isn’t even Summer yet!

This is really unusual, since Hawaii Fall fares don’t normally start appearing until mid to late airfare-saleSummer.  While this may not be an earth-shatteringly good deal, it is good enough to lock in your Fall vacation dates early.

This is a great deal! I have a brother in LA – this airfare price is unheard of! I should check if I can get some time off work to visit them :)

  2. Conway says:

Is there a special code you have to enter to receive this price?. As of now, I am seeing r/t prices at $827 for a Sept. departure on a Tues. – Thurs. Is there anything else I have to enter?
    Thanks,
    Conway

  3. Jeff says:

    Hi Conway,

Try using either one of the online travel agencies (like Orbitz) or Kayak. It’s there. Let me know how it goes, and if there is still a problem, tell me your exact dates.

    Aloha, Jeff

  4. Jack says:

    Jeff,

Which airline is offeing the $126 fare to Hawaii?

  5. Stacy says:

    This is a great site!

I saw a similar deal of $200 round trip last December from SFO – Honolulu. I need to travel in early August 2009 to Honolulu and I am hoping to get a similar deal.

Do you think the above deal will come back for early August instead of late August?

  6. Breeze says:

hi, i’m looking to travel Oct 30 to kauai from SFO, i haven’t seen anything less than $450. do you have any suggestions for me? i’ve tried hotwire, expedia, and orbitz

  7. Kris says:

    Jeff:

I don’t see a way to go TPA to Maui from 9/7-9/14 for under $600.
The only way is to cobble together some flights. Fly SW Air TPA-LAX for $119 (one way), LAX-Hon (via Continental’s $126 special), then fly local from Hon. to Maui (dirt cheap due to air wars).

You’ve said to wait til mid-July to book, when fares should drop. Am I dreaming to expect better deals or is this about as good as it can get for travel to Hawaii from Florida?

    -Kris

  8. Jeff says:

    Breeze:

It is too early for October deals. Which site you check doesn’t matter for the most part, the deals are the deals. Keep checking back, but expect to wait until sometime in July or August.

    Chris:

Maybe I’m dreaming too, but I really believe you’ll see cheaper ways to get to Maui in September by waiting. Fall deals aren’t out and shouldn’t be for another 6-10 weeks. Usually I’m right on deal timing (only because I’ve been following Hawaii travel deals for so many years due to my own travel needs), but not always.

Aloha Jeff, I have been searching for good fares from LAX to KONA. If I could locate this offer to Honolulu I can inter-island to Kona..I am unable to locate this offer as of this morning..my travel dates are 9/15-9/22/09. In your opinion, should I wait awhile or where can I locate this rate. Mahalo for your help..Deanne

  10. Jeff says:

    Hi Diane,

Your dates are available to Honolulu at $235 (all inclusive) on American. Go to their website, Kayak, Orbitz, etc.

    Aloha, Jeff

  11. Laura says:

    Aloha Jeff~
I am a 19 year old looking to go to Hawaii (we’re thinking maui) on spring break with a couple of girlfriends sometime during march 20-27 of 2010. I’ve started looking at flights leaving from spokane washington but the cheapest is around $642. Being a poor college student I was just wondering, is this a reasonable fare, what might I expect to pay and when would be the best time to book a flight?

  12. Jeff says:

    Hi Laura,

You’ll love this: I need to go to Spokane and am looking for tickets right now myself, and am waiting. Funny coincidence.

Anyway, I can’t say for sure. One thing going against you is that you want to go during Spring break, which is one of our high seasons. Having said that, just hang on a bit. There may well be deals that start in the fall and go through the Spring. We might see those start showing up the end of July or even later.

A few months ago I went from Kauai to Seattle for $200 round-trip on Alaska. Not sure we’ll see those kinds of deals again, but I believe there is no harm in waiting a while to see.

    Aloha, Jeff

  13. Laura says:

Aloha Jeff! That is a very funny conincidence! Thanks for the advice I will keep my eyes out and wait. I would appreciate it if it’s possible, for you to post any deals you may find in the future from Spokane or near Spokane. :-)

  14. Tracy says:

    HI Jeff,

I am looking to book a flight to Maui or Honalulu August 5-13th 2009. All the rates are coming in $800-over $1000. I keep seeing deals for late August, however, do you have any suggestions for the beginning of August?

  15. Jeff says:

    Hi Tracy,

You didn’t say where you’ll be coming from but your IP address indicated Maryland. I really don’t see any great alternatives for your dates at this point. If you’d booked even a week ago, the choices were much better, perhaps half the cost.

But here’s one puddle-skipping longshot: Fly from IAD or other airport to Phoenix for $300 or less and then from there to Honolulu on United for $400 more.

    Aloha, Jeff

  16. yasmine says:

    Hey,
Any deals like that from New York City?…My bf and I are dying to go to Hawaii in August. Any tips would be greatly appreciated..

    Thanks,

    Yasmine

  17. Jeff says:

    Hi Yasmine,

Travel deals are all about timing. NYC had great Hawaii deals, just two weeks ago. You could have flown round-trip to Honolulu in late August for $250 total. Obviously however, those deals are not the norm. We should start seeing cheaper fares (though not that cheap), that may take effect the second half of August, at any point. I’ll keep my fingers crossed with you.

    Aloha, Jeff

  18. Tanja says:

    Hi Jeff,

First of all, what a great website! I read everyone’s questions, and since you seem to be answering all of them so patiently, I decided to ask you for your advice too :)

I am currently planning our wedding in Maui for the spring of 2010. March, April, May or June. Most of our guests are coming from LA and San Francisco and I want to have the wedding in a month that will most likely offer good deals and allow people to come. I am only interested in the flights from LA to Honolulu and SF to Honolulu. The flights to Maui would be on a local airline I think.

Do you have any advice for me? Any experience with spring deals and good and bad months?

    Thanks!!
    Tanja

  19. Jeff says:

Hi Tanja and congratulations in advance.

To get the best Spring deals, you need to stay away from Spring break. Since that now extends for more weeks than it used to, stay well away from it. From then through the first week week of June should be safe for finding the best deals. As for when, I expect that some of the deals that come out between now and likely Labor Day will go through your dates. After that there will be more sale flurries right up until the last minute. For planning the farthest in advance though, I’d suggest taking advantage of that next big round of sales.

Lastly, there’s no need to go to Honolulu as there are plenty of non-stops available. That will also save money.

    Aloha, Jeff

  20. Renee says:

Hi Jeff. I’m booking a flight to HNL from NC, either Raleigh or Charlotte. My dates are 8/13 to 8/17 are there any deals out there?

  21. Jeff says:

    Hi Renee,

Doesn’t look good right now from either airport. About $750. I doubt it will get worse, and there’s a chance that deals could arise for your dates. If it were me, I’d wait to buy. Keeping fingers crossed.

    Aloha, jeff

  22. Renee says:

Thanks Jeff. How long should I wait to buy? I scanning every sight known to man for cheaper rates. Would the rates decrease if I changed my dates to 8/20 – 8/24?

  23. Jeff says:

Hi Renee, Perhaps $50 cheaper if you change to those dates, flying from Raleigh. If it were me, I’d probably wait until 2-3 weeks before, given your dates. I can’t promise it will help, but that’s just what I would do. This one is tricky.

  24. Delena says:

    Hello Jeff

Me and my husband are looking for tickets to Maui.. departure is May 15th returning May 22nd.. I saw fares back in December for $350 RT how ever that was a bad time for us do to the holidays. Now the tickets are between $637 – $800 tax included. Do you think this is because of spring break? Do you think the fare will go back down in time. Our timeshare is already reserved just need to get the tickets.

    Thanks

    Delena

  25. Jeff says:

    Hi Delena,

I do think ticket prices will be coming down soon (and we’ve seen some of that already) for travel between mid April and early June. Because it seems unlikely that the prices will go up, I suggest waiting to purchase, even until mid-April, if necessary.

    Hope that helps.

    Aloha, Jeff
