Buy The Ticket, Avoid The Options

Published by Jeff at 12:05 am under Travel tips

Last week I made a reservation to fly to Honolulu for an upcoming trip.  Hawaiian Airlines offered me two options that were either new, or that I hadn’t previously noticed.

The offers were for car rental and bus transfer at my destination, Honolulu. Here’s the deal they offered and how it looks to me:

1.  Car Rental.

Below is the rate I got from dollar.com, using no special codes.

As you can see, I’m paying $110 base rate for a mid sized car for 6 days.  The deal Hawaiian offered is $264 base rate for the same car and days.  A difference of $154.  Further, Dollar is on-airport at HNL, while Advantage is not.

2.  Bus transfer.

Hawaiian offered a bus transfer from HNL to Waikiki for $55 for two persons.  Heck, even a cab would be cheaper!  We previously suggested using Honolulu’s The Bus, which we have used ourselves.  The cost is $4 for two persons.  Alternatively, you can use Roberts Hawaii airport transport service, at a cost of $18 for two persons.  The possible savings is between $37 and $51.
