As the summer draws to a close, we are embarking on the fall economy season of Hawaii travel deals. Stay tuned for a lot more fall Hawaii deals to come. Following that comes the Christmas and New Years holidays, and with it a huge influx of Hawaii visitors.
Two of the most frequently asked questions we get are when to buy tickets for Christmas in Hawaii and how much you can expect to pay.
Hawaii Vacation Tips
It is never too early to buy tickets for the highest priced time of year. Because the carriers have relatively little competition and excellent control of seat inventory, there is no reason to expect to find bargains at this time of year.
Are you available to fly on Christmas and New Years days or the day just prior? These are somewhat less desirable and therefore frequently afford better pricing.
Another tip is to use newcomer Allegiant Air which has by far the best prices for Christmas holiday travel. That’s true even though they charge extra for carry on bags, and using a credit card for purchase. It may still be worthwhile to drive to the airports they fly from. One example is flying from Santa Maria instead of LAX. Driving there from Los Angeles can save you $518 per person.
Most of these are not Hawaii travel deals in any traditional sense. The exceptions are Eugene, Fresno, Monterey, Santa Maria and Stockton, which represent great value at any time.
Dates
For 2012, the Christmas season dates are December 21 through December 30.
Routes, Costs and Airlines
Prices vary widely by date and airline. Below are the lowest round trip airfares (including tax) found as of this August 13, 2012.
