Virgin America Hawaii

Flights to Hawaii | Virgin America 2015 Update

Rumors have been swirling in recent days regarding Virgin America flights to Hawaii. Word on the beach is that the company plans to launch service from San Francisco to Honolulu later this year. Los Angeles is being discussed as a secondary departure city. The verdict is out on whether there will also be flights to the neighbor islands. These market entries could serve to turn the current status quo of high prices and agreed competition upside down.

Virgin CEO David Cush said “As of now we remain pretty bullish on the Hawaii market, particularly given our point of sales strength out of San Francisco”

The scoop from Beat of Hawaii:

  • Virgin America is taking delivery of Hawaii capable A320 aircraft through 2015 and will begin deliveries of longer range new A320NEO airplanes starting next year.
  • The company is ready to fly to Hawaii starting in October should they decide to do so.
  • The lock-step competition from SFO and LAX continues to support adequately high prices which invite another competitor such as Virgin America.
  • Virgin America indicated as long ago as 2008 that they planned to enter the Hawaii airline market.
  • In 2014 their CEO said they’d “be using sharklet equipped airplanes in 2015 when we start flying to Hawaii….”

And the best indicator:

  • Their A320’s have been seen around Honolulu International Airport, perhaps in testing/certification for upcoming service.

  1. so happy about this news, maybe Virgin should also consider Asian flights like Manila & South Korea in the near future? we flew Virgin awhile back to L Vegas & were really satisfied with their excellent service! i was sad to learn that they discontinue flying to Toronto, Canada though 🙁

  2. I think you’re mistaken, Virgin Australia has been spotted a few times within the past few months taking delivery or sending back aircraft. I’ve personally seen 2 of them, latest was an Embraer 170

  3. All of that sounds good except for the part about seeing Virgin’s planes around HNL. Seeing how none of their current planes are certified to fly out over the ocean, I don’t see how they could have been spotted there. I would love to see any photos of them at HNL airport if they have. 🙂
