Follow Hawaii VOG On-Line

Thanks to a cross-agency U.S. Government website, you can now keep constantly informed about the changing levels of VOG (volcanic smog) emanating from Kilauea on the Big Island.

The continuous eruption, which began in 1983, is presently spewing about 2,000 tons of gaseous fumes into Hawaii’s atmosphere each day. Here on Kauai, the tradewinds have kept VOG away from us since early June.

Because the VOG feels like smog and can impact the entire state, it is great to have a reliable on-line resource for exactly what’s happening today.

Here’s the site.  It is actually Hawaii air quality conditions and forecasts, and lists five locations on the Big Island, plus Honolulu.
