  1. Correction – metered on-street parking in Waikiki is $3/hr. This applies to #6.
Update – meters are now accepting credit card and you have to pay. This is a big positive – during the non-enforcement period people figured this out and it became nearly impossible to find on-street parking – the return of enforcement is immediately making street parking much more available.
Addition – it would be great if this article covered the many great alternative forms of transportation available in Waikiki. TheBus, all the private transit, Biki, and walking (Waikiki is super pedestrian friendly). Waikiki and Oahu is truly a destination that can be enjoyed without a car. Save your money, the headache finding parking, and stress of traffic.

  2. We are looking for free parking during February 24 of February 28
We are staying at Kaimana hotel. I understand there is metered parking there, but is it for overnight? Can you give any advice on car rentals per day near the hotel?

  3. Adjacent to the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which was charging $65 per day parking, is a wonderful pay by the hour with your credit card that charged a whopping $1.00 per hour. For a 10 minute stroll, one way, the most that I paid in a 24 hour period was $15 with the average amount being $11.00. I drive around the Island, see sights, visit the beach and do things. Now with the credit card issue it might be free, if not beware, the Police and Tow Truck camp out waiting for time to expire. Always better to overpay then be fined and towed away!

  4. How depressing. Free parking might seem like a laudable goal, but it actually decreases the quality of life by attracting more cars, and the noise, air pollution and danger to life and limb that cars create. Decreasing parking spots and pricing available ones highly is what is needed. Cars and the people who drive them should be paying their fair share of the social, fiscal and environmental impact that they create. Urban planning research confirms this time and time again in cities all over the world. We should be encouraging and funding more mass transit and pedestrian thruways, not cheap or free car parking. Sad to see that Waikiki is so far behind the times. Really sad.

      1. Rail was bad idea from the start. I supported ex governor Ben Cayetano’s initiative to kill the rail and invest in better bus system at one tenth the cost. The voters didn’t listen and boondoggle leadership prevailed in supporting rail. But I don’t let corrupt leadership in one city dissuade me from the fact that urban centers suffer rather than benefit from increased car use.

    1. So what do u suggest? If the govt in place isn’t interested in that type of agenda then whose fault Is it. It’s got to come from leadership and it looks like HI just doesn’t have any.

      1. It’s Unfortunate that Hawaii has not upgraded to 5G services for the meters, I’m guessing that there wasn’t any kind of pressure to do so from the Resorts and Hotels. If there had been the upgrade would have been immediate! This is what happens when Politicians are controlled by outside interests instead of the people, nothing that should be done ever is. You all voted for them, nothing has changed.

    2. Those tourists that drive are paying more than their fair share before attempting to find a parking spot whether free or not. Mass transit is as good as the routes it covers and how often, not everyone has the time to waste waiting for the bus, never mind the constant stops. There’s not a Single Solution to Address the problem and the multifaceted ones are complained about all too often.

  5. I used ParkOpedia when I was driving around Majorca, Spain… Palma area. No idea whatsoever as where to find parking and Parkopedia saved the day. Found a nice underground parking garage that we would never have found on our own.
