I have been seeing prices fluctuate for late March 2017 from LAX to HNL from about $500 – $700. Will this fluctuation continue, or should I be purchasing tickets now? I see specials pop up on various websites for even less than $300 round trip but they sell out quickly. I’d like to give myself time to try nailing one of these before settling for standard rates.

I was hoping it drops after thanksgiving, based on your suggestions, I should book closer to august? Hoping accommodations are still available thru airbnb by then! Please let me know what you think. Thank you. 11/27 is Thanksgiving weekend so that is going to remain expensive. Your return is a Saturday and that too will be more expensive than mid-week. Thus not sure if it will improve over the current price. Lastly travel on Thanksgiving weekend has availability issues if you wait.

I enjoy receiving Beat of Hawaii and find your information very helpful. We are planning to go to Kona Dec 26-Jan 1. While I know it is an expensive time to fly, can I expect tickets to decrease in price between now and December?

Flying from Detroit? For your dates $1,500 to $1800. Pretty grim. Might improve by waiting but availability for those dates is also a consideration. If you have any flexibility, you can fly from Detroit to Honolulu December 29 through January 4 for $976 on Delta. Inter-island will add about $200 round trip.
