Here are a couple of airfares worth mentioning.  They just happen to be from two of my favorite places.  I took advantage of a similar deal last year to NYC.

Newark to Honolulu (Available both directions)

  • Price: $465 round trip (all-inclusive)
  • United Airlines
  • Travel dates: August 18 through November (Thanksgiving Week $100 more)
  • Advance purchase: 30 days
  • Minimum/maximum stay: 3/60 days
  • Fare basis code: WE30ONHH
  • Availability:  Mid-Week

Sydney to Honolulu (Not Available for Honolulu Departures)

  • Price: A$595 round trip (all-inclusive); also A$627 from Melbourne
  • Jetstar Airways
  • Travel dates: June 26 to July 8 (mostly gone) and July 29 to September 16  (good availability) from Sydney; July 29 to September 16 only from Melbourne
  • Book by June 11

Photo Caption:  On our last trip to Sydney we took a half day harbor cruise which I highly recommend.

    Hi there,

We’re coming to Kauai in September for a wedding (flying from SFO or if need be LAX). Do you think air fares are better now, or would you wait? I know you don’t have a crystal ball, but any insight you can offer is much appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Kevin,

    1. LAX. If your dates work with the $99 each way fare that’s still out there as of today, that’s a good deal. It comes to about $330 total round-trip. But when you add the time and cost of getting from SFO to LAX, I’m not so sure.
    2. SFO. Really expensive (close to $600) for fall travel so far. It will definitely come down, probably by about $200. But you may have to wait a month or more to see that.

    Aloha, Jeff

PS: I took the liberty of combining your two questions.
