Rob, much mahalo for tackling 'Hawaii weather' in this post. That's what vacationers want to hear first of all when planning their trip to Hawaii. Just a little addendum from Best Hawaii Vacations:

1. We definitely agree with your statement of a drier summer season and a wetter winter season on all Hawaiian Islands.
2. However, there are major differences between the islands. Let's say Kauai and the other islands, with Kauai having the most precipitation per year and its lush and tropical scenery it's also called the Garden Island.
3. Each Hawaii visitors should be aware when choosing their location on any of the islands that the east coasts are generally wetter than the much drier west coast. So if you are not sure what weather you can expect, check wunderground stats for the area.
4. Here is just one example for the dramatic precipitation difference between East, Hilo, Hamakua Coast, and West Coast, Kona Kohala Coast, on the Big Island.
Annual precipitation Kawaihae, Kohala Coast: 5.7 inches
Annual precipitation Hilo: 134 inches

For all Hawaii travelers, make sure to visit the right place in Hawaii, especially during winter! You probably have plenty of rain on the Mainland. Hope this helps. http://kohalacoastweb.blogspot.com/2008/01/hawaii-weather.html

As a Canadian who spends six months in Hawaii (as part of my job), I also have a love hate relationship with the rainy season. However ... we are just heading into the snow season in Canada. Beautiful clear sunny days will follow after several inches of snow, but when the sun comes ... the snow is still on the ground.

What I love about the rainy season in Hawaii, is the renewal you feel, and that I can still indulge my passion for golf on grass ... not snow!
