Hi Sharon,

Whoever told you that good fares are either 8 weeks or 2 weeks out doesn't know of what they speak. There are no rules to the timing of good airfares I'm afraid.

There's nothing cheap from the first week of April until the first week of May. You might save $100 by booking separately to the west coast and then again to Hawaii.

Since last year, Chicago has had some of the best airfares to Hawaii month after month (much like Seattle). Now those fares have gone, at least for the time being.

Aloha, Jeff

Where are the discounted fares from Chicago???? I'm trying to get there 4/16-4/28. I read that the good fares are either 8 weeks out or 2 weeks out. Needless to say, I'm getting nervous about finding a good fare. Any help would be appreciated.

Suzanne,

I was looking at the outer island pricing this morning, and it is running much higher, as you also found. On the other hand, consider flying to HNL and then buying a separate ticket to Kona. It appears to me that inter-island flights will remain reasonably low cost for the foreseeable future.

I saw that you posted $321 deals from LAX to Hawaii.. I'm assuming it is Honolulu because trying to get Kona on United is still bringing costs upwards of $800... any word on the other islands coming down for summer? Still too soon to tell?
