I agree with Shara. I live in the Vancouver area, and specialize in travel to Hawaii, and in the present setting up a traditional wedding business in Maui. I travel to Hawaii 2-3 times a year, and moving to Kauai later this year. I never travel out of Vancouver. The 8 taxes and the protectionism is sickening. I book 95% of my clients out of Seattle. Let's hope they are competitive, and the idea of shuttling people to Bellingham is perfect. (I remember not too long ago when parking there was free). Both Air Canada and West Jet better wake up.
Good luck with it!

I just wanted to let you all know that a spokesperson for Allegiant Air spoke to our local news and said that the company is considering Santa Maria as a departure city for the Hawaii route.

This would be great!! I just returned from a three week stay in the islands. What a wonderful way to relax, and what a better way to return there on Allegiant Airlines. What a great company. I wish them the very best. I also look forward to being aboard one of there flights back to Paradise soon.

Any thoughts on using Las Vegas as a connection point for HNL? I have family in Bismarck, ND and it would be great to plan a Hawaii vacation with them if Allegiant will offer low fares and LAS connections.

Canadian carriers are saddled with our ridiculously high taxes, thus they can't compete at all with companies like Allegiant. I will. whenever possible, fly out of Bellingham rather than YVR. I even travel to Seattle to fly to Hawaii. It is that much cheaper! If allegiant flys to Hawaii, I will be with them forever!!

Hi Shara,

Thanks for your nice words!

There is already significant downward pressure on the Seattle to Vancouver corridor due to competition. This can only help further.

Aloha, Jeff

Do you think it will impact Westjet and Air Canada out of Vancouver, B.C. to Maui? Let's get this thread going and perhaps Westjet and Air Canada will take note and lower their fares. Or...perhaps Allegiant will organize transportation from Vancouver to serve Canadian customers (maybe it could be part of the cost- marketing is a wonderful thing). Let's hope! Thanks guys for your stellar reporting- this website is one of the best travel sites.

Six 757 jets would mean 6 to 12 daily flights (12 if they could squeeze in two RTs a day (would they do that?). They could, of course, use those aircraft on other routes.
