If Your Airline Route Is Cancelled

Sep 10, 2008 No Comments by

We received a great question from Beat of Hawaii reader Mary yesterday:

Is there insurance for plane tickets if the airline cancels the flight or route?

I did a little research and here’s what I’ve found:

  • There is no trip insurance coverage for this situation.
  • Each airline may address this differently; so inquire as to how your situation would be handled.

American Airlines recently addressed the issue. According to spokesman Tim Wagner:

If someone had purchased a ticket for a flight that is canceled later…, in American’s case, the airline would put the passenger on another American flight, accommodate them on another airline or refund their money.
