Kauai Westin $189; Sheraton $169

Published by Jeff at 12:05 am under Hotels and Resorts

poi-puHere’s a great deal at two very nice Kauai resorts that both offer superior locations.

If this sounds familiar, that’s because Starwood is repeating an offer they first ran in June. Only this time, it’s valid 7 days a week (with some limitations) through April 25, 2010.

Kauai Westin is a property we wrote about soon after its opening. The Princeville location means that while it isn’t oceanfront, its a short walk to breathtaking Anini beach. I recommend it and personally love the kitchenettes.

The Kauai Sheraton is an older motel-like resort we also frequently mention, largely because of its spectacular Poipu beach-front address. While it’s definitely funky, I like the Sheraton too.

Reservations must be pre-paid, and are not changeable or refundable. Given that, you might want to consider purchasing trip insurance. If you’re flying Hawaiian, given the possibility of a labor dispute, that wouldn’t be a bad idea anyway.

The Westin sounds just about perfect, but I am worried about the location. If I book the Westin and it will rain on most days I might not make it back alive from Kauai – I am sure either my wife or my daughter will kill me… (We are going for a week in mid February 2010.) Is there anything similar on the less rainy side of the island? Even if the price is not quite as good as these offers, I can probably wait a little more for a sale until February…

    Hi Andras,

A couple of thoughts, first being that accommodation is so personal, I suggest checking guidebooks and forums too. I’d suggested the Westin Princeville to friends and they didn’t like it at all. They found it cold, impersonal, and the walls too thin for their liking. Another place that’s coming to mind is Waimea Plantation Cottages.

Let me know what you decide.

    Aloha,

    Jeff

We ended up booking the Palm Suite at [link removed] based mainly on the Frommer’s review. Thanks for your response, it did make me think more carefully about what we expect from our second trip to Hawaii. The Marriott on the Big Island did not disappoint last year, but this time I think we would enjoy something with a more personal touch. Looking forward to experiencing Kauai for the first time.

    Hi Andras,

Glad that worked out for you and look forward to hearing about your vacation. On a separate note, I removed your link to the accommodation only because the link caused a Google warning: “The website … contains elements from the site dr-mhashim.com, which appears to host malware.”

    Aloha, Jeff
