Sorry, but it isn’t looking good. Unless you’re the type that deal with not knowing, I’d probably book the $575-$582 available fares rather than enduring the stress.

My family (2 adults 2 kids) will be travelling to Poipu from LAX/SNA on 1/8/09 returning 1/15/09. Current prices are $688pp w/tax through Hawaiian and $582pp w/tax on American.

How long do you think I should wait to get tickets? I’d prefer to fly Hawaiian because I have miles with them, but a $100 difference in price will have me flying American.

I’m big on stress reduction, so I’d do it. Just don’t kick yourself if it is less. We’ve seen the route for about $100 less a few months ago.

Hi there,

I have been keeping my eye on airfare for months! We have already booked our condo for Feb. 4-11th on the big island. Flying from bay area to KOA has been around $500. Today I see Alaska airlines is $410 RT ($449 w/tax). That seems like a pretty good deal. $400 was my target price to pull the trigger. Whatcha think??

Amy – There’s a 30 day waiting period before a strike can happen and that hasn’t started yet. Therefore the Dec. 1 date.
Brent – Frankly its anyone’s guess. I might take it only because you January 5 date is too close to New Years and will likely not be part of upcoming sales.’
Gina – Keep waiting. The deals will come for your dates.
Pua – I feel quite certain that deals will be comparable to last season.

Jeff, I bet all your ‘Beat of Hawaii’ followers are waiting for the good news for air fares to drop for the busy Hawaii winter season 2010 (January – March ’10), when the ‘snowbirds’ are visiting Hawaii from PNW, Alaska and Canada.

I am really curious myself whether we will see similar discounted Hawaii air fares RT, as we did in February 2009!

It all depends how much Hawaii tourism has picked up this winter season!

Do you have any hints on finding a good deal on airfare from Sacramento, San Fran or Oakland to Kaui? We would like to go in Mid/Late February or early March. I have been watching for deals but haven’t seen anything worth jumping on yet.

Any suggestions?

I can book LA to Kauai for three people today including a car for under $1,700. Our trip is scheduled from January5-12. Do you predict better pricing opportunities in the next two weeks?
