Lei Day in Hawaii: Kauai Celebrates

Published by Rob at 12:46 am under Culture and Events

Beat of Hawaii was at the Kauai Museum today for their 28th Annual Lei Day Celebration. I hope you like our pictures of some of the contest winners. It turned out to be a beautiful day of flowers, music, dance and Aloha.

Our tradition is to make straw leis and send them to loved ones on the mainland this time of year. They’re easy to make and take about an hour. Our first newsletter on Monday will have the directions.

Is this post sounding similar to yesterday’s? Working late, Jeff accidentally deleted that post (a first). Rather than publish it again, we’ve decided to combine it with today’s.

The 81st Lei Day Festival on Oahu was a huge success. They created the world’s longest fresh flower lei, over a mile long, and will now be in the Guinness Book of World Records.

More Lei Day events are scheduled this weekend.

  • The Brothers Cazimero will hold their annual Lei Day concert Friday night at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.
  • On Saturday there will be a Lei Day festival at Lanai Culture and Heritage Center.
  • Big Island celebrates on Sunday with their Lei Day festival at Hilo’s Palace Theater.
  • For the past 11 years, there has even been a Lei Day Festival on the mainland. If you guessed Las Vegas, you’re right. It’s at the California Hotel and Casino on Saturday and Sunday.
