No Deal At Maile Sky Court

Sep 01, 2009 6 Comments by

mskI noticed this advertisement at HNL baggage claim last week: Maile Sky Court for $39.

It seemed to be a good deal given the economy, the hotel’s need to fill last minute vacancies, and the somewhat basic and aged nature of the property.  I took a picture of the sign so I could share the deal with you.

The Outstanding $39 Value doesn’t exist.

When I phoned the hotel today to get the scoop on their $39 special, I was told that it’s $39 per person based on double occupancy.  Oops.  The fine print never said that.

So much for the airport special.  That’s $78 a night which is higher than their WonderFALL Interntet deals starting at $64.

Frankly, no one should spend $78 to stay at Maile Sky Court.  I’ve stayed there twice in recent years and always left disappointed.   At $39 per night, Maile Sky court was a fair deal.  At $78, I’d keep walking.

We look forward to sharing better and more honest hotel deals with you shortly.

So it looks like one would have a case to demand this rate be honored, right? Otherwise one would report their behinds to the BBB or whoever oversees the hotel pricing game because of the misleading at best advertising

I appreciate the opinions of people who have actually stayed at the resorts that are advertised in all the travel sites and magazines. Especially those who do not have an agenda.
When looking at all the “hotel deals” it’s hard to not get swept up in the vacation frenzy, only to end up overpaying for something that ends up making you miserable! And the hotels don’t help this much…the pictures that they display usually are of rooms that you never get to stay in or are above the price you want. So, because of this, people tend to stay with what they know…I know I did this when I stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani in Waikiki in 1=2007…I did this because I stayed there before and knew what I was getting into…sure, I would like to stay an a similar hotel, but which one? Rather than drive myself crazy thinking about it, I settled…and I don’t think that the price I paid in 2007 was bad…$149/week, $169/weekend..

Never trust those rates at the airport because they are for one-person only, and the airport board rates usually have a small print under the price stating based on double-occupancy. Unfortunately because they have that “based on double-occupancy” no one can fight them about the price misrepresentation (or should we say misleading pricing). HotelClub.com has the same hotel for $57 plus tax on most nights, and Discount Hotels Hawaii normally has a cheaper rate than that. Again thanks for the wonderful pieces of information as your service is vital to all travelers. Aloha.

I have to disagree with this. We stayed at the Maile not too long ago and was happy at the deal we got. We called about a rate we saw on military.com (which was actually an old rate), the reservations gal told us that it was an old rate but then proceeded to tell us about their lowest special which was $64. I suspect that the $39 is just a way to get people to call, but they also will tell you the lowest advertised special as they did for us which is fine with me. And in my opinion $64 for that hotel is a steal. The rooms are clean, the location was perfect, it was quiet, and the lobby had a lovely coi pond and sitting area. OH and the best part and something that must be mentioned is the rooms have kitchens. Anyone who travels with kids knows how much money that can save you. In fact, I would have even paid the $78 for what we got. Have you seen some of the other hotels being offered at that rate?? Being military and having family come in to visit a lot we have had our share of sampling Hawaii’s hotels. Try and find a room with a kitchen that isn’t a dump for $64!
