As we indicated was likely last week, Mokulele Airlines today confirmed that starting November 19, they will offer new jet service between Honolulu and two points. Initially, flights will be to Kona on the Big Island and Lihue, Kauai. More destinations will likely be added early next year.
The service is an arrangement between Big Island’s Mokulele and Republic Airways’ Shuttle America. It will be commence operation with four EMB 170 jets carrying 64 coach and 6 first class passengers.
The schedule appears to provide 5 daily round-trips to Kona and 9 round-trips to Lihue. Fares competitive with Hawaiian and Go! are already listed. If there isn’t an immediate fare war announced, however, I’ll eat my puka shells.
This is the best Hawaii airline news in a long time, and the most significant one since the demise of Aloha Airlines this past spring.
In stark contrast with Go! Airlines tumultuous arrival, the Hawaii community is welcoming Mokulele’s expansion. Senator Daniel Inouye and Governor Linda Lingle both offered congratulatory words upon learning of the announcement.
Please stay tuned for exciting, upcoming inter-island airfares!
Contratulations and welcome Mokulele!
