Portland and Seattle Summer Air Deals

Hawaiian Airlines has just kicked off the latest airfare battle between the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. As a result, you can expect to find reasonable prices all summer from Portland and Seattle to Honolulu and Kahului. This represents a savings of about $200 over previous pricing during peak summer travel.
While the best pricing isn’t available every day, it is still widely available at this time.
- Honolulu – Seattle roundtrip $360
- Honolulu – Portland roundtrip $360
- Maui – Seattle roundtrip $386
- Maui – Portland roundtrip $430
Book on Hawaiian Airlines by March 31 for travel from June 15 through August 21. Added taxes are approximately $20 roundtrip. These fares are also available for travel originating in Hawaii.
I expect that Alaska and Northwest (maybe others too) will meet and perhaps beat these fares. Stay tuned for more deal updates.

I’m trying to book a flight from Seattle to Maui in July, and I’m just biting my nails watching my fares inch higher and higher. When the fares were low (<$200 each way before tax) I didn’t have my dates set, and now that I know when I can travel, I’m looking at $250+ each way. Any ideas why the fares are getting higher on this route in July? I keep seeing alerts and posts about “great summer deals” from Seattle but these fares are higher than what I paid for the same week in July 2 years ago! What gives? And any predictions for a reprieve? Is my only solution to buy now, and then stop looking at the travel websites so I won’t be taunted by low fares when the sales *actually* show up? Arrrrrgh.
Hi Megan,
No one knows where airfares will go, not even the airlines.
The fares for July will likely not go down for some time, if at all. With Obama speaking somewhat positively about the economy today, for example, it keeps the pressure on for the airlines to wait and see. The airlines know that “you and the kids” are on vacation then and set to travel. So they have little impetus to discount now.
If your dates are set and you’re determined to come to Maui in July, I’d say book at ~$500 if you can. Otherwise you’ll have to hope it turns out better later, which it may or may not.
Sorry I can’t help more, though I’ll certainly keep posting the deals as the happen.
Aloha,
Jeff
