We stayed at one of these older condo resorts on Kauai before and don't mind 'condo living' for a vacation. Problem we noticed was really the missing AC. Even during spring months the sun can really heat up a place and the ceiling fans won't do the trick. Another problem with condo complexes in general. One room has to face the parking lot, and it was the bedroom with us because living room is naturally facing the ocean and the sun. When you come from a big city for a visit to Hawaii, the parking lot noise at night does probably not disturb you a bit but us coming from the quiet Kohala Coast countryside.
