UPDATE: As of late Monday evening, it appears that Polo will not strengthen to hurricane force after all. Whew!
We’ve just learned that Tropical Storm Polo is in the Eastern Pacific, and is moving Northwest towards Hawaii.
It’s intensifying and expected to become a hurricane within the next 72 hours. Current analysis indicates the likelihood of a turn to the north and a lessening in its strength by the time it arrives in or near our Hawaiian waters, in about a week.
We are grateful to have had a really quiet hurricane season this year. This storm reminds us, however, just how vigilant we need to remain in our preparedness.
As you may be aware, the Pacific hurricane season starts every year on June 1, and ends on November 30.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out on this storm. If you want to follow it too, you can do so here.
