  1. It’s official as of tonight Oct 11,2017 Our CEO just announced Southwest service to The Hawaiian Islands will start in June 2018. Mahalo to Beat Of Hawaii for all of your Support for brining our LUV wings to the Beautiful Hawaiian Islands

  2. It’s official as of 19 minutes ago Southwest is going to Hawaii in 2018 via their press release @ Universal Studios!!

  3. I am so glad to hear that Southwest Airlines will be flying to Hawaii soon. This is great news for the state of Hawaii, It is always a good thing to see more people come to this beautiful state. Visitors to Hawaii are always welcome. The additional hotel room taxes that these visitors will have to pay will help the city of Honolulu finish this great rail system that we building in Honolulu. We as residents of Hawaii should be very grateful to our tourist, after all, they are helping us pay for this great rail system and contribute to state of Hawaii economy.

    1. Great news about Southwest. Look forward to lower
      pricing.

As for my wife and I we would prefer to stay with the Hawaiian
      Airlines product.

We usually fly out of Oakland to HNL and Maui.

IWe prefer the assigned seats for longer flights plus
      Hawaiian still serves meals.

Generally we book our seating in A and B seats.
When Hawaiian changes to single row
aircraft we’ll just book C and D seats across the aisle from each other.

      Support local!

  4. It make my dream come true!!! I’m very loyal southwest for a few years!!! I am forward fly to Hawaii in 2019. I hope can fly to Maui! Thanks and keep post update.

  5. My husband and I are hoping to take our bucket list trip to Hawaii in 2018. We are trying to plan for 2 weeks and 2, possibly 3 islands. Your site is so informative and helpful! Would it be better to book our flights or our hotels first? And how far in advance for the best deals? Many thanks for any advice you can give us!

    1. Hi Debbie.

It is safest to book flights first, then accommodations and car soon thereafter. When to purchase for upcoming Southwest flights is probably going to be as soon as they are released. There will be many sales across the carriers however, so do keep that in mind. Again that only applies for those routes that are announced.

      Aloha.

      1. Book a condo. If you’re here for a period of time it’s so much better than a hotel. Discounthawaiicarrental.com is my favorite website to book cars. They have beat out all competition every time I’ve been here but once!

  6. Paradise comes at a price, both in transportation and accommodations. Initially WN will offer steep discounts to inaugurate their Hawaii service before airfares and hotel packages align more to the cost of the operation. WN’s seat pitch is some of the tightest in the industry. Unless you’re shorter than 5’5″ one will have to make the decision of being crammed into a miserable , tight seat configuration for up to 6 hours vs more generous seating configurations available on other airlines. Unless you have priority boarding status with WN sure you can look forward to a tight ride across the Pacific. Final decision is up to the consumer of course.

    1. Um, no on the seat pitch. WN is 31-32″ which is consistent with (or better than) the other major US carriers and larger than any other low cost carrier.

    2. How is Southwest’s seating any tighter than Alaska’s? Did you check seatguru? Southwest’s 737-800 seat pitch is one inch more than Alaska’s. Both Alaska and Southwest’s 737-700’s have the same seat pitch and width

    3. A ridiculously inaccurate comment. Clearly has never been on a WN flight. Average pitch is 32″, compared to 28″ of “base economy” levels of other airlines.
