Stop: Don’t Buy Go! Airline Tickets

Published by Jeff at 11:25 am under Airlines and Ships

My skepticism is waxing quickly vis-a-vis the likelihood of Go!’s continued operation here in Hawaii.  Today’s one-two punch below can only be interpreted as an extremely negative bellwether.

We continue the now entirely-too-long saga of Mesa Air Group (Go!’s parent company).

  • This morning Mesa announced the sudden resignation of their interim CFO, William Hoke, effective today.  Hoke had replaced their prior CFO, Peter Murname, who was fired after being implicated in the lawsuit filed by Hawaiian Airlines.
  • The company has still not filed their quarterly 10Q financial report, which was due last month.
  • Mesa stock is trading at $.61 today.

What to do:

  • Use alternative inter-island transportation as previous suggested (Hawaiian Air, Island Air or Superferry).
  • Avoid buying Go! tickets if you are concerned.  Even with new planes on the way, Hawaiian may not have the capacity to reaccommodate passengers during peak summer season.

But if we already have Go! HNL-KOA-HNL tickets for October? Better to buy Hawaiian right now or wait?

    Hi Konstantin,

If it were me, I’d just wait it out at this point. The reason is that October won’t be nearly as busy as the peak summer season. Hawaiian will also have more capacity as they will have taken delivery of their new planes.

Assuming you bought your tickets on a credit card, your money should be safe in any event.

    Aloha, Jeff

Yes, I also think wait is a better option. :)

We have inter-island tickets on Go for August and now I’m concerned. Should we book on Hawaiian (which means flying from Maui to Oahu to Kona instead of just Maui to Kona). Tickets were purchased on a credit card.

    Thanks,
    Judi

    Hi Judi,

If Go! stops flying, the Hawaiian Airlines seat inventory will dry up very quickly. So stay tuned and if anything does happen, be quick getting alternate reservations.

    Aloha, Jeff
