Sunscreens for Hawaii: Updated

Just how effective your sunscreen is at protecting your skin?

We’ve been writing about staying safe in the Hawaii sun for some time.  As always, your best protection is a shirt, hat and proper sunglasses. But beyond that, here’s a new way I found to stay covered here in the islands and elsewhere.

A concise and easy to use free iPhone app is now available from Environmental Work Group, the non profit gold-standard bearer in this field.  Instead of trying to remember which sunscreen to buy, you can bring your phone to the store with you and have at hand a list of safety and effectiveness-rated products.  Navigating the app is quick and easy, and you can search by brand or by rating.  The guide contains the top 500 beach and sport sunscreens, listing them as green (recommended), yellow (caution), or red (avoid).

How about a summary of 10 to buy, 10 to avoid of commonly available sunscreens? Must use sunscreen in Hawaii always myself. Thanks much
