  1. Hi there,

I’m planning to fly to Maui from New York, anytime in Nov or Dec of 2016, and wanted to ask when to by tickets, and about how much to expect to pay? I did see tickets as low as $535, a month ago or so, but missed the opportunity to buy it. Will it go down that much again? Thank you so much for your help!

    1. Hi Aliyam.

There should still be some more sales for fall, so stay tuned if you have the flexibility. Keep in mind that those prices were not on either of the nonstop flights. And, being realistic, budget about $700RT with one stop and a bit more for nonstop, and anything less will be money left to spend in Hawaii.

      Aloha.

  2. Hello! We are looking to fly to Lihue in June from Oakland, SF, or Sacramento. When would be the best time to buy tickets? The best I’ve found so far is about $650 from Oakland. Will prices go down with new planes coming in service? Love your site! Thanks much!!!

    1. Hi Audrey.

Thank you! After early June it is high season. Traditional is $700+ and last year we did see some weakness wherein prices dropped to just under $600. That might happen again, or it might not. All supply and demand driven and too soon to know that. If you have heart set on airline/dates/times, then you’re probably only talking about $50 more if you buy now. New planes probably won’t come online until late summer or fall as far as we know.

      Aloha.

  3. I have always waited until September to book tickets to Hawaii for Thanksgiving weekend…traveling on Thanksgiving. In previous years, if I purchased tix in September, they were about $650 round trip. Now they are over $1,000! Will tickets lower before Thanksgiving??

    1. Hi Victoria.

While it is possible there is no guarantee. Next window of opportunity should that happen is probably end of October. If airlines haven’t sold as much of the Thanksgiving inventory as they’d like, then prices will drift downward, though probably not a sale per se. If they have adequately sold the period, then prices will not go down and could either go up or there may be no availability.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello, really enjoy your website and all of the info. We are planning a trip to go to Maui from PDX 4/6-4/15or16. Ticket prices with a companion fair is $1450 non stop!!! its $577 there and $732 back for the full price ticket. We are used to going in Sept and only pay $800 for both with companion fair.

My question is, is this the normal amount for non stop airfare to Maui in April, I do realize it is during the Sprig break season.

    Thank you

    1. Hi Dylan,

Thank you. We can’t speak to the companion pricing but see the issue of the return date. Some options: If you’d rather fly from/to Seattle, there’s a huge savings – perhaps up to $500 for the same dates. Or if you can return later – starting the following Tuesday, it gets a whole lot better too. Availability appears quite limited for your dates so it may not improve without alternate routing or dates.

      Aloha.

  5. Hi,

I am traveling with my husband to Honolulu on March 11th-18th, 2017. When do you suggest is a good time to purchase plane tickets? I’m traveling out of Philadelphia, PA. Most of the prices that I saw are over $1000, is this normal?

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Theresa.

Lower prices are available mid-week and with multiple, longer connections. Saturdays are typically the most expensive days to travel, as indicated. Still the price of about $1,200 with good connection does seem pretty high. It could improve, and probably can’t get worse if you prefer to wait.

      Aloha.

  6. Can you please tell me when to buy airfare? I don’t know when to purchase cheapest tickets from Honolulu to LAX for Oct 19, 2016 and return Oct 31, 2016 + or – 1 day is fine. Will it get below $400? or is $527 the cheapest?

  7. Good Morning!
Were looking to fly to the Big Island sometime late October early November. We’re planning on staying at family’s house so time is flexible. However we would like to get the best flight deals. We would be coming out of DFW and I’m sure having to stop to in San Francisco to change over, but what would the best days to fly and what do you see as a typical fare for two adults? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Jacqueline.

Best price late October is $621 on Delta, but it has 3 stops and 19 hours. More reasonable is $672 on a combination of United and American in 13 hours or $841 on United in 10 hours with 1 stop. Not sure these will improve.

      Aloha.

  8. Hithere! Looking to fly from PDX to Maui (OGG) June30/2017 to July 10. Seeing fares around $ 735 on Alaska. This seems to be rather steep? Any suggestions? CAnnotmove travel dates. Thanks so much for your reply!
    Mahalo!

    1. Hi Mark.

That’s about right for that market. Past summer we saw some weakness – some dates down by about $100, but not sure that will happen again. Since dates are set, suggest buying.

      Aloha.

  9. Hi!

We are planning a trip to Kona the end of March 2017. Through Alaska ticket prices are $720ish right now from Seattle, are these prices normal for March? I’ve never paid more than around $500 but we usually visit in Jan/Feb..

    Thank You!

    1. Hi Michelle,

Yes as you can see from our post, that is in Spring Break, which is the reason for the higher price. Otherwise winter is running about $500 most days.

      Aloha.

  10. Very flexbile from June 30th- july 21 of 2016! The two of us are wanting to go to hawaii for 7 days! When should we fly + hotel + car for cheapestt rate?
