  1. We are a family of 4 traveling from SFO to HNL July 29 to August 14. According to what I read online, it said booking 4 months in advance was best but I know that we are traveling during peak season. Currently, airfare is $737 round trip. Do you see the price dropping anytime in the future or do we need to grab our tickets now before they increase again. A week ago, airfare was $621 round trip and I’m kicking myself for not booking then… Really appreciate your insight!

    Thanks for your help.

    1. Hi Sheryl.

Consider changing advisers. Can you go and return a day later? If so then $631 nonstop on United. Your dates are currently pricing at $681. Either way not unexpected or especially nigh prices for your dates. These will continue to go up and down a bit within a rather limited range. Availability is probably not a big issue as it is rather late in summer. You added a note about Oakland being okay, but that isn’t helping unfortunately.

      Aloha.

  2. Hi, I love your site and advice! Thank you for all the great information. My family plan to fly from Oakland to Honolulu on Aug 31 thru Sept 4th for my brother’s wedding. We recently missed the $442 round trip price and have been checking daily on their website. Do you think it will get that low again, or should we book now at the $556 price?
    Thank you much!!
    Christie

      1. Thank you for that info! If I wanted to try and fly with Hawaiian Airlines, though, do you anticipate the $566 price to drop again, or should I just book it now?

        Mahalo!

        1. Hi Christie.

Unknown. Bird in hand vs one in the bush. It is labor day weekend. If you’re set on those exact dates it might or might not improve.

          Aloha.

  3. Looking at taking family to Oahu December 27th for 10 days flying out of Omaha. We can find packages around 7500 for flights and hotel Hilton Waikiki beach. Is this a good price or will it increase/decrease?
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Julie.

We won’t comment on packages but will say that they are not at all likely to save you any money. Perhaps however you find that more convenient. The airfare for your dates will run $1,000 to $1,100 depending on total transit time. It isn’t likely that price will come down unless you have flexibility on dates. We can’t look out beyond returning January 6, since those aren’t yet loaded to the airlines’ availability But definitely moving out in time will reduce the price. You might consider waiting a week or so so you can view more availability before deciding.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello

We are planning a trip right at the summer/fall season crossover according to your website. Aug 11-20. Will we see airline prices drop for this time frame from SEA>Maui? $750 seems really high right now.

thanks so much as I have been receiving your newsletter for 3 years now and this is finally a week we can go.

    1. Hi Alan.

Based on what we see today, lowest fare you can expect is about $500. There are already low $500’s airfares in that time frame, but not your exact days. Flexibility will get the deal worm. Best prices on Hawaiian are starting 8/16. Yes that pricing could move to earlier days in August but that is definitely an unknown.

      Aloha.

  5. Aloha! We are coming to Oahu in October for our 50th anniversary and am curious if any of the airlines offer discount pricing on Enhanced (Premium) Economy. Medical condition requires greater leg room. First Class/Business class kind of out of our price range this time. Our departure city will be New Orleans (MSY).

    Thanks and Mahalo

    1. Hi Giff.

Domestically, as you called it enhanced economy is often just an upgrade you can pay for when buying economy tickets. Like United economy plus as an example. Same with Hawaiian extra comfort. The cost if much much less than first class. Typically about $100 more each way.

      Aloha.

  6. My family and I plan to travel on 8-4-17-8-13-17. Just wondering when the best time would be to book flights?

  7. Looking to fly 2 people from Norfolk, VA (ORF) to Honolulu or the Big Island in September or October. What’s the best price we might expect to get?

  8. We are going to Kona on March 10th, and plan to fly over to Lihue on the 15th for the remainder of our vacation. We have booked flights in and out of Hawaii, but we’re wondering when we should be booking our inter-island flight. Thank your so much for you help! BTW, we’ve been subscribers for years. Love your site! We pass it on often.

  9. Aloha Beat of Hawaii,

My husband and I are traveling from the Bay Area (SFO or OAK) to Lihue, Kauai during the first week of May. When would you recommend that we purchase our flights? And around what price range would you say I am looking at?

Thank you so much in advance!

    1. Hi Jaymie.

Looks like about $550 at the moment. Suggest waiting until the next found of fare sales for later this spring. It shouldn’t be much longer. Target price is mid-$400’s from Oakland.

      Aloha.

  10. Hello,
We will be traveling to the Big Island from Phoenix Oct 7th – 14th. Should I book flights now or wait to see if the price comes down?

    Thank you,
    Jill

    1. Hi Jill.

Suggest waiting. Best price is going to be high $500’s and right now it is price in at about $100 more.

      Aloha.
