  1. Hello! Trying to decide if I got the best deal for my travel dates out of Billings, MT to Maui.
Traveling mid-June, 2017. Tickets are almost $900 each. Should I wait in hope of a better deal? My dates can’t really be moved.
    Thanks for your help!

    1. Hi Jen.

Yes mostly over $900 and not at all likely to come down. Did find a few lower fares like $738 that was comprised of two one-ways. 6/13 on Delta and returning 6/26 on American.

      Suggest buying soon.

      Aloha.

  2. Have for the last 7 years hit Maui on the tail end of kids’ summer break (the last 2 weeks right before school starts around the 3rd week of August, which historically have been lower when compared to June, July and early August), but noticed in the last 2 years the airfare for those same weeks appear to have somewhat remained closer to the peak summer rates (as if airlines extended the summer window up to those weeks that we would normally go)
So this year we are planning differently by heading to Maui at the start of the kids’ summer break (3rd week of June), this week I noticed that fares have come down a little bit, the lowest price I am seeing is around $650 non-stop SFO to OGG. Not familiar with peak summer pricing – is $650 a good price? with still 4 months to go can we wait a little more hoping airfare to come down more?

    1. Hi Phil.

$619 to $644 RT that third week. Good price. Typically $700+ so doubtful it will come down.

      Aloha.

  3. Hi

My husband and I had to postpone our honeymoon and are looking to re-book for travel in November ’17.
We will be flying from Sydney, Aus to Honolulu (then on to Vegas, Maui, Honolulu then home to Sydney) but the flights are coming in at approx $1600 extra we had paid just under $2200 each AUD originally.

Im just wondering if there is a cheaper time of the year for us to travel and / or is there the potential for a sale as $1600 extra is quite a lot to pay.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Charity,

We don’t really follow the market between Australia and Hawaii to be honest, as our visitors are from the US mainland.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello.
We are taking our family of 5 to Maui at the end of May, beginning of June. I had read you can get pricing close to $400 out of LAX but I’m not seeing that yet. Would you recommend we buy now (prices around $500) or should it come down in the next few weeks/month?
    Thanks for your input!

  5. Tickets from Charleston, SC to Kauai are at $732 the last week of September to October. Will this price likely go down if I wait until June (3 months before to purchase)? I am wondering what the average price is to fly from the East coast and if flights may come down below $600? Thanks for your insight!

    1. Hi Alleyn.

That is a great price for that route and would suggest buying. Under $600? Definitely not.

      Aloha.

  6. Hello Beat of Hawaii,

My friends and I are planning to go to Kauai from Seattle in August from the 17th to the 23rd. I have been keeping my on on flights and I missed a deal for $470. Now the flight prices are around $520. Do you suggest we buy the tickets now or wait?

    Thank you so much!

    1. Hi Paulina.

Because Seattle is among the most contested markets right now, it could work out to wait. Right now non stops for your dates are over $700. Otherwise, best deal is $526 on United with a quick layover in SFO. That’s a good price.

  7. Hi Kasey,

I am taking my family (14 of us) to Kona over the end of year holiday break. We have rented a villa from 12/27/2017 to 1/6/2018. Different family members will be flying out of SJC, SFO, SMF, and ALB. Is it best to buy airline tickets now or wait a while and see if the price comes down?

    Thanks for your help.

    Aloha

    1. Hi Walt.

As indicated in post, price will not come down for Christmas/New Years. Best to buy now.

      Aloha.

  8. Hello

I am looking to book one way flights from NYC to Honolulu very close to Christmas for my parents in law. The price is around $1000 per person and up right now. Can I expect a dip in prices during the year, or should I jump on anything I see at that level?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Mel.

Prices don’t come down for the holidays. Only thing that happens is availability decreases and prices, duration and connections go up.

      Aloha.

  9. Flying in and out of Las Vegas, or any Southern California airports would be a little better for us. How do prices look there? And when would be best to purchase for those locations? Also, on our island hoppers the lowest we’ve seen is $109 do you think there will be movement on those or are they usually pretty consistent?

  10. Hello, we are traveling to the big island June 4th then hopping over to Kauai on the 11th and flying home the 15th. We live in Utah so could fly out of multiple locations on the west coast. When do you suggest booking to get the cheapest flights and which would be the cheapest cities to fly out of? Thank you! Your website is wonderful.

    1. Hi Kasey.

We personally find it rather challenging to fly out of alternate cities. From SLC, high $800’s on Delta into Kona and out of Lihue with good connections on your dates. It is about $250 less out of Seattle if that works and it is nonstop in both directions.

      Aloha.

      1. With our dates being during the beginning of the busy season do you think it would be best to purchase now? Or hold on to see if there are deals available after spring break? Thank you so much for your recommendations.

        1. Hi Kasey.

While outbound could come down a bit if you wait, return could go up. Depends a bit too on whether you are thinking of trying Seattle or just biting the bullet on SLC. In SLC there’s less competition and availability compared with Seattle. So with Seattle you “could” try waiting, although again our sense again is to buy now.

          Aloha.

Looking forward to visiting the islands soon 🙂

          2. Hi Kasey.

San Diego looks best. In $500’s. Yes that’s the price between KOA and LIH and doubt it will come down. One nonstop which is tremendous time saver.

            Aloha.
