  1. Hi there, family of 7 are planning to fly from seattle wa to KOA, Oct 1st to Oct 2nd 2017. Our dates are not flexible due to work schedules. Prices are around 700$ right now. Iv’e heard this is average, but I am also hearing if I wait until summer to buy, I could get them as low as 500+ tax. Does this sound right to you? Looking foward to hearing from you, and thank you greatly for your reply!!

    1. Hi Carly.

Not sure about your dates – October 1 to October 2? In any event, for October 1 departure there are fares of $455 right now (depending on return date) on Alaska, which is great. Very competitive market, but with fixed dates, might be good to buy now at that price.

      Aloha.

  2. I am trying to go to a honolulu wedding during July 8 weekend from bay area. Our leave and arrival dates are flexible.

If we leave wed July 5 from sfo, and return July 10 monday, tickets are ~$605. Is this an okay price, or should we wait a little longer to purchase?

  3. Can you please give us some info – 1st time travelling to HI – taking my mom for her 80th birthday so she can cross off her bucket list! We are flying from Milwaukee or Chicago to Kauai next March 25-April 1 ,2018 – what can we expect to pay in airfare and when is the best time to purchase it? Thank you for your help!

    1. Hi Kelly.

Are you flexible on your dates? Problem is you’re flying right around Easter which is likely to have high season spring rates. For your dates we’d expect to see $1,000+ from either airport. But if you can fly later – mid April say, then perhaps $200 or more savings is possible. Timing for spring break travel is as far in advance as possible and for after spring break, about 90 days in advance or less.

      Aloha.

  4. Hi there. We’re planning to travel from MSP to Maui May 4th-13th. Possibly the 6th-13th but we’re hoping to add two days to the front. I’ve seen fare sales on both coasts but nothing out of MSP yet. I remember watching prices last year for a May vacation and we ultimately decided Hawaii was out of range. However in April, after we planned a trip elsewhere, flights for May came down nicely to around $500. So I know there’s still hope but I’m looking for some reassurance! 🙂 We hope to not have to cancel our trip. Many thanks for all you do!

      1. I’m on pins and needles! Thankfully we have until April 7th to cancel our condo without penalty so we have a few more weeks to hope for a sale. Many thanks!

  5. I plan to leave from SAT on 7/7, and cobble a SWA flt to PHX or OAK (or anywhere on the W.Coast having best connection at that time. Since I’m jammed with peak pricing on a summer outbound, shall I do a O-W, and wait till sometime in the fall when I’m due to return, and try to snag a O-W in low season back? ..Or just go ahead and bite the bullet by scheduling an RT now?

    Thx for all you do-

    1. Hi Nick.

Good to hear from you again. Let’s check the crystal ball…. Well bay area always beats Phoenix, that’s for sure. Don’t know which island you’re flying to. But using OGG as an example, a round trip with a departure of 7/6 (if you can swing 1 day earlier), returning in mid-August on is under $500 total. Nearly $100 more for 7/7. Anyway, not bad at all. If instead you buy one-way on the 7th, it is going to be mid $300’s, and maybe $50 less on 7/6. It all depends on which island and whether it is non stop or not. And a one way back is going to be $230.

Not a huge difference any way to cut it. But San Jose is probably your best bet, followed by Oakland, then San Diego.

      Hope that helps.

      Aloha.

  6. Hello,

Thank you in advance for your help! I appreciate it. My family of 4 is staying in Kauai July 15-29th. Our dates are set – it’s a Saturday to Saturday (2 weeks). We would be traveling from San Diego to Lihue. Tickets are around $750 now. Would you recommend waiting for them to go down, or do you think I should buy them now?

    Mahalo!

    1. Hi Nikki.

Peak summer – peak prices. That’s not a bad airfare and we see no reason to wait.

      Aloha.

  7. Looking for last minute deal (flight plus hotel) to Honolulu (Oahu) from Richmond, Norfolk or Newport News Virginia.

  8. We are planning to travel from Austin, TX to the big island Oct 7-13, 2017. Looks like flying in/out of KOA is less expensive than Hilo. Question, please: should I book airfare now, or wait a bit? Many thanks!

    1. Hi Cathy.

Flying on Friday and Saturday will increase costs. If you can fly mid-week there are great fares – just over $700 for October on American with good connection. That’s about as good as you’ll find. For your dates the same connection will cost $900+. Not sure what to suggest and not clear that your specific dates will improve.

      Aloha.

      1. Thanks for the advice–it’s what I needed to pull the trigger. Our dates are not flexible, as we are travelling with kids on fall break from school, but I was able to get $855 pp, taxes included, with our weekend dates, 1 stop each way with good timing, so all-in-all, not too bad.

  9. Flying to Kauai 9-29 would like Hawaiian first class, when should we buy tickets?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Ginny.

First class won’t vary as much as economy, so may not be a difference in buying now or later.

      Aloha.

  10. Looking for late August and It seems like when I was ready to jump on Hawiian Airlines it went up around $100. The other carriers don’t seem to matching. Is $829 for a Sat to Sat reasonable or should we hold a little longer and hope they drop to either match the other carriers (around $730)? Thanks for you advice!

    1. Hi Rich.

We’ve barely started to see good prices for late summer/fall. So suggest waiting since availability won’t be an issue.

      Aloha.
