Introduction – Cheapest Time to Fly to Hawaii | Vacation Deals
Flights to Hawaii remain at inflation adjusted relatively low prices and this is about to get better – a lot better. That’s great news for 2018 Hawaii vacations. Recent and upcoming competition and strong discounting on many routes result in cheaper than normal flights to Hawaii.
The two largest Hawaii air markets – Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area and their surrounding airports, continue to have variable pricing due to somewhat stagnant competition, even including Alaska/Virgin America’s insertion on these routes and United’s recent announcements.
Seattle and Portland have heated up with Delta inaugurating nonstop flights from Seattle to Lihue in late 2017. Expect more flights to Hawaii on Delta as they compete head on with Alaska Airlines. Seattle will benefit first, with great Hawaii prices starting in January 2018. This is also having a very positive effect on flights to Hawaii from Portland.
San Diego and Sacramento have also seen favorable improvements on flights to Hawaii this year.
New aircraft arriving the first quarter of next year should significantly help reduce prices. We will see new nonstop flights to Honolulu, Maui, Kona and Lihue as Hawaiian Airlines takes delivery of single-aisle Airbus A321neo and Alaska receives their Boeing 737MAX aircraft. These new extended range jets will be the upcoming workhorse fleets for most west coast (and beyond) flights to Hawaii. Southwest Airlines flights to Hawaii will start in the not distant future as well. We expect to see more flights announced before the end of 2017.
