  1. Hello!
We’re planning a trip to Honolulu Hawaii from LA next March 2018. It’s our first time flying! We’re very excited but nervous at the same time. I’m hoping you can give us some advise. I read all the other comments, I’d like to thank you in advance for taking your time to reply.

    We’re two adults, a 8yr, & 1 yr old.
I have absolutely zero experience booking.
Do you recommend buying the bundle with hotel included or separately? When should I buy my tickets? Also, should I book online or through an agency? What’s the weather like by the end of MArch?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Brenda

    1. Hi Brenda.

Your in for a great time! Having said that, we’ll start talking about 2018 flights late in summer or fall, as the airlines release better fares and the new routes. There is not going to be any financial difference in booking separately or as a package. So if you like the convenience of a package, that’s great. Otherwise, suggest booking independently – car, air and accommodation.

It is hard to predict weather wherever you are. But there’s never a bad time of year to come to Hawaii – March included. Generally, nice weather with about 80 degree days and 60’s at night should prevail.

      Aloha.

  2. My husband and I plan to get married in Kauai the first week of June next year. When is the latest that I should book everything from flight and hotel before prices increase?

  3. Hello: I am planning my first trip to Hawaii in 2018. Flexible to go April,May or October. Which is best: price, weather? Thank you so much!

  4. Aloha! We are repeat travelers to beautiful Hawaii. This year we plan to travel from Omaha to Lihue mid-late December and spend Christmas/30th Anniversary/New Years there. When is a good time to start expecting airfare to drop?

    Mahalo!

    1. Hi Tina.

For travel during that highest priced period, it won’t make a difference when you buy and could actually get worse by waiting. You’re probably looking at $1,100-$1,200.

      Aloha.

  5. Hi there!

I am planning on making my first trip to Hawaii (probably the island of Honolulu) for fall 2017.

I heard September, October and November is a great time to go (cheaper airfare, less busy..etc), is this true?

I am of course looking for a cheaper way of travelling, looking for anywhere from 4-8 days there. I don’t want to do all-inclusive or book a room at big box hotel.

So I was thinking of booking through Air BnB, on the north side of Honolulu (less tourists?) Any other suggestions?

I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I can fly out of Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto, cheapest I have seen was $550 CAD dollars return for one ticket, which I think is pretty cheap.

    1. I too am trying to fly to Hawaii in the fall (Oct) because it’s off season but someone hasn’t told the airlines that yet. For the last 2 months I’ve been watching a non stop from LAX to OGG has been around $750 and PHX (where I’m from) has been $1,150 on Hawaiian.
Today’s new rates come out and LAX is $840 and PHX is now $1,311. $1300 is great if I’m getting 2 RT fares not one, what is going on that they say to wait until fares come down as we’re only 2.5 months away and we refuse to fly UA.

  6. Hello,

We are planning a trip to HNL last week of May 2018 from Atlanta. Have 60,000 FF miles from Delta to help. Any suggestions on when to book tickets and the cheapest options? What are your thoughts on trying to fly to LAX, spend night, then fly on to HNL?

  7. Aloha,
My family and I total of 6 over 18 are planning on going to Honolulu from San Francisco over spring break when the kids are not in college. Week before Easter. I know it’s high season during this time. Right now cheapest rate is 790.00. Should we book now or do you think prices may decrease a little bit?
    Thank you

    1. Hi Ardith.

Spring break is hard to call. The most popular (thus most expensive) dates tend to shift as it gets closer. That might work in your favor or but more likely not, should you decide to wait. Among the most popular dates, that price is quite good, so you might consider buying now. Hope that helps.

      Aloha.

  8. Hello, I am planning a trip to Hawaii in late August for a week. Our choice of island is Kauia since me and my son love the outdoors and hiking. When is the best time to buy airline tickets, book a hotel reservation or buy a package deal? This will be my first time going to Hawaii and I am super excited! I love your website and thank you for all the wonderful posts:) More power to you!

    Sincerely,

  9. Aloha,

We are looking at returning to Kauai in mid December. We went the same time last year, but prices have increased significantly since our last trip. Last year we booked our trip at the end of June. I followed the rates for the next several weeks, and they did not change much from our booking price. So, my question is, would now be the right time or will rates drop any further if we wait? We are flying from Salt Lake to Kauai.

    Mahalo!

    1. Hi Doug.

There are $536 round trip on Delta many even most days through Dec 12 departures. Many returns also. That’s as good as you can expect to find. Suggest buying now.

      Aloha.

  10. Hello!

I have been planning a trip to go to Hawaii to see a friend in November. I just found a round trip ticket for $630 from Denver to Honolulu with a short stop in San Fran each way. I was wondering if this is a good price for that time, I haven’t had much luck with finding out what is and isn’t a good deal from Denver to Hawaii so your feed back would be much appreciated!
    Thank you! (:

    1. Hi Hailey.

Fair price. Not sure it will improve by waiting. Sales from Denver aren’t common at this time.

      Aloha.
