  1. i am from dallas tx and i would like to fly out to maui dec 29 2014 and fly back jan 3 2015. i just looked at tickets and they are around $1250. two days ago it was $950. when is the best time to buy tickets?

    1. Hi Alan,

Best to buy as soon as possible as we expect demand to exceed capacity during that peak season time frame.

      Aloha.

  2. We are planning to go to Oahu April 4-8. Flight from SFO through United Airlines is about $497. Will there be cheaper flights from OAK through Hawaiian Airlines if we wait longer?

  3. We are going to Maui from May 23-30 (we can depart on 24th but believe a Sat depart is higher). Fares are 850-900 RT from Phoenix on HAL but see a fare for 543RT on AA but really want to fly on HAL, do you think we should wait for fares to drop or to book now on AA

    1. Hi Glenn,

Bird in hand vs. one in the bush. It all depends on your pain threshold in that regard. There should be better deals on Hawaiian Airlines for your dates if you choose to wait.

      Aloha.

  4. My wife and I are from Rogers, AR and are planning to fly to Maui in October 2014 to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Unfortunately we are pretty limited on our travel days due to work schedules etc… meaning that we will have to fly out on a Saturday and return the following Sat/Sunday. Right now we can fly out of Bentonville (XNA) for around $1050 per person during that time period. Should we go ahead and purchase now or wait a while to see if we can get a better deal?

    1. Hi Dave,

October is our low season and there should be somewhat better airfares from everywhere. Saturdays are the most expensive days. Even a Sunday departure will save you some money, as I’m finding $936 on American Airlines. But perhaps wait until spring or even up until mid-summer to book. Things should improve and can’t likely go higher.

      Aloha and congratulations.

  5. Hi, I am going to Maui/HNL June 16-27 (roughly) and am looking for the following flights non stop.

    West Coast – Maui
    Maui – HNL
    HNL – West Coast

Currently from LA this is about $850 (and has been for a month or so) via Delta. Should I expect these to drop at all? Or is it in my best interest to book ASAP. Thanks! I am going to fly from the midwest to the west coast using airline miles in a hope to reduce cost. Thanks!

    1. Hi Rob.

Those are pretty tight dates so the price is about where we’d expect it to stay. As an alternative, today’s deals we posted would allow you to fly round trip to HNL for $406 with an inter-island round trip costing about $140+. So if cost is the ultimate criteria, that might be a good choice. Allegiant has their fans and critics, so be careful on that choice.

      Aloha.

  6. My husband & I have a timeshare on Maui booked for Aug 16-23, 2014. We will be flying from Calgary, AB. Right now fares are about $900 & up. Can we expect any sales between now & our travel dates?

    1. Hi Christine,

Your dates are good for discounting, but there’s no certainty. I don’t think costs will rise for those dates, so you “should” be safe waiting and keeping an eye out for better pricing.

Let us know how it goes.

      Aloha.

  7. Hello, can you tell me which US cities fly non stop to Maui? I can’t seem to find a list somewhere. I’m looking to use my southwest points to get to a city then fly non stop to maui from there. Thanks!

    1. Hi Rob,

We don’t have a list of those. But those are widespread, including the west coast, western Canada, Alaska, Texas and the mid-west.

      Aloha.

  8. Hi! There are six of us travelling from Sacramento to Kona June 15-22. Any chance there will be sales in the coming weeks that will bring the price down from the $950+ range it’s at now?

    1. Hi Audrey.

For your dates and from Sacramento it is possible but not likely. Have you looked at Oakland as an alternative?

      Aloha.

    2. I’m finding flights from Oakland to Kona around $810 now. Do you think it will get any lower in the coming weeks or should I just book now?

      1. Hi again,

The best prices we are finding this morning are via LAX on Delta (6/16-23 @ $728) or nonstop on Hawaiian (6/14-23 @ $779 or 6/16-23 $798). Otherwise, your exact dates are $809 via LAX. Not finding roundtrip availability nonstop for your precise dates.

Moreover keep in mind that demand may well exceed capacity for dates from mid-June through July.

        Aloha

  9. We are going to Honolulu this summer, our ages rank from 6-76. Planning to rent a vacation home. What part of Oahu should we stay at ? We want some place with calm beach for the kids, convenient location but not too close to the crownd, a friend mentioned about Ko Olina, but it’s Kindna far from everything. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks.

    1. Hi Kat,

I suggest you look at some guidebooks for ideas. Ko Olina is definitely a traffic laden drive from Honolulu/Waikiki. So would Kailua be. The Kahala area is much closer, though it would likely be quite expensive. Let us know what you end up doing. Have you looked on Airbnb?

      Aloha.

  10. Hi everyone! I would check direct with airlines. I was able to book two round trip flights from LAX to honalulu for just over $700. I was super excited to find this deal. We got it direct with Hawaiian Air lines.
