  1. I’m flying from Dallas to LIH last week of Aug for a one week stay. It will be 4 in the group total. When is the best time to buy? Currently, seeing prices for $900-1200 bucks.

    1. Hi Dawn,

$842 on American via Honolulu as of this afternoon. Not bad really and might be worth considering.

      Aloha.

  2. Our family of six will be traveling to Hawaii from Phoenix for Christmas. Specifically, we plan to leave Dec. 22 and stay in Kona until Jan. 2, when we’ll fly to Honolulu, then home on Jan. 6. We’d like to fly Hawaiian Airlines, because they offer nonstop flights from Honolulu to Phoenix. Right now fares are in the $1400 range. Do you think they will go down, or should I go ahead and buy?

    1. Hi Joanna,

Obviously that’s high season. If you keep an eye out, however, it could dip to the $1,000+ range. $1,400 is a bit of wishful thinking on the airlines’ part.

      Aloha.

  3. Aloha,

We are planning a destination wedding in early July and need to fly about 5 people from Houston to Honolulu. Right not the prices are between 965-1000+ per person. Will there be a good time to buy which will give us a lower price? Would it be a good idea to buy when prices on the west coast are cheaper and then piece together a flight from Houston to a west coast city? We will need to arrive between July 2 and 4 and stay for about a week to two weeks.

    Thank you,

    Carol

    1. Hi Carol.

Congratulations! You will be traveling during the highest season and should not expect to see fares go lower unfortunately.

      Aloha.

  4. Hi!
We are going to Hawaii May 22/23/24 (flexible) to June 10th 2014 from NY . Tickets just went up !!! Two days ago it was about $1000 (multi city) NY to Oahu to Maui to Big Island and back to NY, now it’s about $1150…. I’m panicking ! Should we wait ? do you think prices will go down again?
Ps. We want to fly non stop from NY to Honolulu , so we really want to fly Hawaiian Airlines .

    Thank You

    1. Hi Aneta,

We do think for your dates a sale is possible. Sales for your dates should appear at any time.

      Aloha.

  5. Wanting to go fly to Hawaii end of Sept or first of October of 2014 with sons who are excellent surfer’s for the San Diego area. What island would be best to stay and surf that time of year and how far in advance should we book our flight and suggestions as to ideal accommodations.

  6. We are planning a trip to Kauai for our family of five, july 21,2014 to aug 2 . Departure airport Spokane Wa (geg) to LIH. Flights the last couple of weeks are running $950 and up. Should I book now or are they likely to come down,

    1. Hi Jeri.

Bad dates for deals. This summer is going to be very tight. You could drive to Seattle and that would help somewhat but probably that isn’t worth your time.

      Aloha.

    2. Yeah, i have considered the drive to Seattle or flying there . If we drove there we would save about $1000 , but would have that long drive home after the vacation. No fun.
So, I assume that waiting to purchase my tickets will not be advantage. Thank you for your input.

      1. Hi Jeri,

Yes about $1,000 in savings but that is a long drive for sure. Suggest buying now and not looking back at prices. The alternative is to wait and hope for a last minute deal, which while highly unlikely is possible. Be prepared for an alternative vacation in that case however.

        Aloha.

  7. Hi,

Our family of 4 are planning to go to Maui, flying out of San Jose, in May 2014 (dates are flexible–we want to spend 8 nights some time between 5/4 and 5/22). We want to book a package thru Costco and have been checking prices for a few weeks. Unfortunately they have gone up about 500$ during that time. The flight would be on Hawaiin Airlines and those prices, checked separately, have gone up about 30-40$ per person per flight. We want to stay at Kaanapalli Shores. We’ve been waffling because it is a lot of money, but it is disheartening to see rates keep creeping up while we waffle. Any chance room or airfare rates will go down before May, or should we just buy now and cut our losses?

    Thanks.

    1. There will almost certainly be a spring Hawaii air fare sales from San Jose on Hawaiian and Alaska. That could come up at any time.

Not sure if Costco is a good deal or not. A general sense is you’re better off going directly through the suppliers.

      Aloha.

    2. Well, at least as far as the resort costs go, Costco is definitely cheaper than booking direct with resort/Orbitz/etc. The plane tix seem to be about the same or a little higher than going directly thru the airline. Maybe I will just book the room/car thru Costco and book the airfare direct with the airlines later, with the hope that prices come back down.

  8. Hello,
I have a group of 23 flying to Kona from Sacramento or the bay area, whichever is a better deal, from 9/8/14-9/15/14. When do you recommend purchasing tickets? Also, would you advise splitting the group up and taking a few separate flights because i know that they can only sell a few seats and cheaper prices. Thank you.

    1. Hi Brittany,

We suggest you contact the group sales department of the airlines you would consider flying. You should be well qualified for great pricing. Please let us know how it goes.

      Aloha.

  9. Hi! My family and I are planning to fly May 15-22nd 2014 (both thursdays) from LAX-LIH and aren’t flexible on the dates. I’ve been watching airfare for a while now and it seemed lowest about a month or two ago (lowest was $575 rt for good flights). Prices have started jumping up the last couple weeks (now about $725 for non-redeye flights)… hoping we didn’t miss our chance at the low fares! Think they will come back down? Thanks!

    1. Hi Jenny,

There should be better pricing for those dates. We’re actually watching for similar availability. The current pricing isn’t sustainable for those dates in relation to relatively low demand.

      Aloha.

  10. Planning a vacation for May 2nd through May 5th 2014, flying from California. Airfare is at $547 right now. Should I buy now, or wait a little longer?
