Trip Planning Using Panoramio and Flickr

Jun 01, 2010 No Comments by Rob

Here are two ways to check out places you may want to visit here in Hawaii (or elsewhere) before you travel. Social photo sites like Panoramio and Flickr allow users to upload photos by location. As a traveler I can get a better idea of what to include on my itinerary and view comments from people who have been there.

You can see user photos on Flickr and Panoramio without having a personal account. Just enter what you want to view in the search box. In order to upload photos and comment, however, you’ll need to register.

Panoramio is a location-based photo collaboration website which started in Spain and is now owned by Google. It uses Google Earth to link photos to specific locations.  You can zoom in on trails for example, and see what others saw when they were there.

Flickr is very similar except that photos do not appear on a map. It is owned by Yahoo and claims to have 4 billion images.

If you’ve used Flickr or Panoramio for trip planning, please let me know how you think they are useful.
