I just booked the Orchid with this code,and it worked and was confirmed! I will call the hotel in the morning and see if they confirm it. So it still works online at least….. cross your fingers!

As you may already know, airfares change 3x daily, so what happened to you isn’t unusual. I’m glad that it didn’t go the other way where you found the price cheaper after you had purchased.

$379 for early September is a very good price. As of this morning, the best price is $527 (all-inclusive).

On 3/31/09 I purchased 6 tickets from Priceline for travel Sept 5-12 LAX to LIH for $379 each. Within an hour the price was gone and it’s been over $500 since. I’ve been watching the prices for months now and I don’t know if they made a mistake or not but I quickly got my tickets. We are flying on Delta/Mesa and when I went to the Delta site directly, the tickets were $392 but that only got us to HNL and didn’t include the interisland fare.

Could they have messed up or is there something I’m not seeing?

Try VRBO. We have used them the last few years booking a condo at Kapaula and we just booked a 2 bedroom oceanview at Waikoa Beach Resort on the Big Island for $150.00/nt.

Hi Steve,

Best bet at the moment is CVG to OGG (Maui). $750/pp. The other choices of airports are pricing out about $200 higher/pp. Not great, but then you’re going in the peak of summer. As I’ve said before, the airlines will avoid discounting those dates unless and until absolutely necessary (probably the last minute). So that leaves $4k in your budget.

If it were me, I’d check the online travel agencies as well as the airlines and see if you can advantageously put together any packages. I tried Expedia with your approximate dates (I used July 18 to 25) and came up with nice condos and hotels at $1,100 to $1,600/pp including car, hotel and air. The $1.600 price tag gets you top rated Grand Wailea, which readers are always asking for.

One last thought. If it were me, I’d rather have a condo than a hotel, especially with 4 people.

Trying to make it to either Maui or Kauai in the third week of July this year(2009) with my kids, 12 & 15 & my wife. We live between Dayton(DAY) & Cincinnati(CVG) Ohio. We are hoping to stay on a swimmable beach with ocean view, two bedrooms,a kitchen. Like many,…lol… we are looking for a somewhat upscale place at an awesome deal. Have talked about a great trip like this for years, and this really seems like the year to try to go. We love beaches & sunsets. (Sounds like a bad bio) Budget is max at $7500 for food, air, lodging & such.

Been educating via online & word of mouth for the last few months. Also have been reading your articles & enjoy your forthright candor and desire to really help folks.

Any general or specific insight that you may like to give?
