Angie,

Thanks for visiting today. Now that we're back from Big Island, we'll be releasing our Plate Lunch specials over the next week. I also appreciate your comments about Trip Advisor. Our experience with them has made us think twice about the honesty of their reviews.

I'm glad you liked our Kona Tiki post!

I am SO looking forward to the Trip Advisor expose!! We rented a house in Kona last year and the rental website had where you could review the places you stay. I thought I was rather nice considering some of the inconveniences but the owner refused to approve it. So I went to TripAdvisor and they said only the owner of the rental can ask that their rental be listed. I thought the whole point of TripAdvisor was to inform travelers of the good and the bad?

So I reviewed it at my site.

Thanks for the story on the Kona Tiki, I've always wondered what the rooms where like there when we stayed at the Royal Sea Cliff!

Hi Rob - You were at BlogWorld, too? That was my first blog conference.

We didn't get to Huahine. It will be interesting to get your insight on it.

Now I'm off to read about your $69 BI stay.

Hi Pua--

Believe it or not, $69 is the regular rate (Hawaii residency is not required)! I just posted our review of Kona Tiki Hotel which has all of the details.

To reach this lookout of the Waipi'o Valley, go to Honoka'a and take Hwy 240. Don't forget to stop at Tex Drive-In for malasadas (Portuguese doughnuts dipped in sugar). It's at the 43 mile marker near Honoka'a.

Pua's right--it's a spectacular view!

Aloha Rob,
You've got one of the best views on your lunch plate with that post - the loukout at Waipio Valley on the Big Island. It's an easy but magnificent drive there, and any visitor can enjoy the spectatcular views, even the non-hikers!

You got me curious about the $69/nt. oceanfront hotel special! Don't think availability will last long with that kind of kama'aina price. A hui hou. Pua

Aloha Sheila,

I'm in the kitchen right now cooking up a plate! That's interesting that you've been to French Polynesia. My upcoming post in March will primarily focus on the island of Huahine.

It's been two years since I've been to Big Island (and it's only 250 miles from Kauai). My favorite place to stay is the Hapuna Prince Hotel. This time we decided to try something different and stay at a $69 oceanfront hotel. We thought it would make an interesting post about budget travel on the Big Island. I'll let you know how it goes.

Aloha,

Rob

P.S. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet at Blogworld in Las Vegas!

I look forward to the tasty specials. :) By the way, I've been to Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora, which was quite a different experience compared to the islands of Hawaii.
