When Deals Are Slim, Pleasant Holidays A Standout

Sep 18, 2009 12 Comments by Jeff

I’ve written about deals from Pleasant Holidays a number of times before. They package seats bought in bulk from United Airlines together with car rentals and hotels, then pass the savings on to you.

While fall airfare deals from all-important West Coast cities to Hawaii haven’t begun, you can find a top notch deal with Pleasant Holidays.  Here’s their current offer:

pleasant holidays fall specials

For even better-priced last minute deals, I suggest you follow them on Twitter.

The only thing I don’t like about Pleasant Holidays is their website.  Instead of showing you dates the best deal is available, you have to search for them yourself.  It makes finding their best deals, at least for me, nearly impossible.  Their new website, due to be released soon, will rectify this shortcoming.

I suggest for now calling Pleasant Holidays directly at 1-800-742-9244.

I’m planning a trip to the Islands in early Feb. for our family of 5 from Indianapolis. Planning on doing 4 nights on Oahu and 4 nights on Kauai. I’ve check around with a few travel wholesalers including Pleasant Holidays. So far the best price I’ve found for nearly identical packages is through vacationstogo.com. They are pricing all air, lodging, transfers on Oahu, and rental on Kauai for just over $1000 per person. This is a few hundred dollars less per person than anyone else at this point. This seems like a very competitive quote. What do you think? Is there anything I should watch out for when taking the lowest quote?

    Hi Dan,

VTG isn’t a major player in Hawaii travel, but I don’t know of anything wrong with their offerings. The price seems reasonable, not great. The quality of the accommodations offered would be something I would want to scrutinize however. If that’s all good, sometimes a bird in hand is better than waiting and not knowing what might materialize.

    Aloha, Jeff

    Jeff,
I just found your site and it is very informative. I am looking to surprise my wife for our 15th weeding anniversary this Feb./March. I was thinking about 4 nights each on Maui and the Big Island and 2 on Oahu. are their any hotels that have locations on all three that will package a rate or should I book separate? Thanks.

  4. Rob says:

    Hi Rich,

I’d suggest just finding places to stay on each island without regard to branding. Hawaii hotels deals are great right now. If you want any more input, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Aloha, Rob

I used Pleasant Holidays for my last trip to Kauai – I agree that their website sucks. So I first used Orbitz to find the cheapest days to fly with their flexible search tool, then went back to the Pleasant Holidays website and found a great hotel/flight combo deal using the dates I knew had the cheapest flights. Their package deal was about $600 less expensive than booking the hotel and flight separately. Plus I added on a convertible Ford Mustang for less than Hotwire’s compact car prices.

  6. Jeff says:

    Hi Alba,

Glad PH worked for you. I used Kayak and PH to find dates too, but that is a pain, and doesn’t necessarily work because PH seats are bulk and not from United’s regular inventory.

    Aloha, Jeff

We’re looking for airfares from SFO to HNL during the winter holidays. We’re getting quotes for over $1,000 per person for car and air through PH. Have we missed the deals? Do you think the fares will only go up from here?

  8. Jeff says:

    Hi Ruth,

If you’re talking about visiting from from December 18 through 29th, yes air is running about $850. That is not unexpected during those weeks. Before and after, however, the price drops by 50% or more. We rarely see discounting for those weeks, and my sense is this year, that will also be true. Fares will likely remain at the same level for your dates.

    Aloha, Jeff

  9. Ruth says:

Yes, I was referring to December 20 through January 3rd. We just might opt for Thanksgiving instead. Thank you for your advice.

  10. Jeff says:

Better chance of getting a deal if you leave early and return late around Thanksgiving, Ruth. Aloha.

what about booking interisland airfare?? Any ideas

Nothing that isn’t already listed here.
