  1. I am inquiring on when I should purchase 5 airline tickets for Dec 2018 (20-27?). Airline you recommend and would like the shortest time on the plane. Going from Nashville to Honolulu. Thank you very much for your time. Appreciate it very much

  2. I’m looking to travel from Portland, Or to Maui (OGG) at the end of July or beginning of August. The best price I’ve found is $620 for non stop. Is this a good price or will prices likely go down?

  3. Aloha! We are leaving Seattle and traveling to Maui Aug 13-30 to “re-charge our batteries” and have been watching Alaska Air fares for months. I would like to use my companion fare. Last August when I travelled, Alaska Air the fares were several hundred less, is there a rhyme or reason for such a dramatic jump this year? Getting nervous! Should I just be patient? Many thanks and Mahalo!

    1. Hi Lisa.

Yes seems quite expensive for those dates. Suggest being patient, as you said. At least a couple more months. Availability should not be an issue for your dates.

      Aloha.

  4. Hoping to take my family on a trip to one of the Hawaiian islands (kauai is out favorite but any of them would be amazing). We’re not limited to a specific timeframe. Would like to purchase tickets as early as March 1st for a trip anytime in 2018. Any info on the cheapest time to go would be very helpful. My husband and I went to Kauai last year for our honeymoon but this year we would like to take our 3 children. 17, 11 and 11. We’re pretty open timing wise just trying to find something affordable as this would be the first time any of the kids have been on a plane. We are in portland, Oregon but could easily leave from Seattle as well. Please help, any information would be gladly accepted and veey helpful

    1. Hi Christy.

Nothing specific we can recommend. Sign up for our email alerts and then come to Hawaii. Spring (after spring break) and fall (not around Thanksgiving) will be best.

      Aloha.

  5. Hello,

Thanks for the insight! I did notice that flights from NYC (where I am located) were quite expensive compared to other cities and your reasoning confirms that. I’m a student on a tight budget — a good friend of mine is getting married in Honolulu at the end of July. I know this is unfortunately near the end of the summer peak time. I am looking to go from 7/23-30 and found a flight for $940. I know there is the “3 month rule” so I was wondering how heavily you would rely on that, or if I should go ahead and book it.

    Thank you so much again!

    1. Hi AC.

Thank you. The 3 month rule is very general. It’s the point when airlines certainly reconsider (although they are actually doing that on a multiple times per day basis). That doesn’t apply to peak periods, and it is not at all likely that your dates will improve. Suggest buying now.

      Aloha.

  6. Aloha! I found your site as I began my search for flights from LAX (or BUR) to HNL for my niece’s wedding on Sat May 12, 2018. Tentative travel dates are Thur 5/10 – Thur 5/17 but flexible as long as I’m there for the weekend.

Also asking on behalf of family traveling from Florida, departing JAX, MCO or ATL to HNL for wedding. Any suggestions on their best route?

Many thanks in advance for any input you may have.

    1. Hi Marian.

About $400 should do it for you. Atlanta is best bet it seems for others, with nonstop at $679. That’s a good price for nonstop. Or they can slowly puddle-skip for $100 less.

      Aloha.

  7. Aloha,
Going to Maui from Seattle April 28, 2018. Flying sat to sat…of course will be a bit more…prices now are $650-$700. I’ve been watching since August and it hasn’t been below $550. I went the same time last year in 2017 and booked my tickets in oct/nov, any predictions for when to buy? Watch and wait…Last year we paid $475 return for couch.
    Mahalo

    1. Hi Ashley.

Priced just now at $541 RT on Alaska, which is good for Saturdays. Could come down, but not really likely for weekend travel.

      Aloha.

  8. Great website info! Just wanted to post info for others, I was able to get 142 + tax on Hawaiian from SEA to KOA in August and then a return on United for 152 + tax in August through SFO. Prices move daily if not hourly, so starting to see some good deals happening.

  9. I just started looking at this site and love the section where people ask and get replies about flight information.
I’m planning a trip for 6 people in June as a high school graduation gift and flying from LAX.
We want to go to 2 islands and have room reservations on Kauai for June 16-23. So we will be looking for either the week of June 9-16 or June 23 to 30 . Also not sure what other island we should visit, but was looked by at Oahu or Maui. I saw flight to Honolulu for around $550-$700 rt. Do you think the airfare prices will drop for around this time period, and which week would be the best for the least expensive airfare?
Also any recommendations for housing cost and locations for either island. We are looking for something with a kitchen so we can prepare some of our meals and save on some expenses . Look forward to hearing replies.

    1. Hi Raquel.

You’re flying at a very expensive time. If you can arrive in Hawaii earlier in the month, that will help. Availability for airfare, accommodations and car rental will be an issue thereafter. Keep in mind that inter-island flights are both expensive and time consuming, so you should consider flying directly to and from your desired islands instead.

      Aloha.
