Hi, what are your suggestions for getting these cheap fares if you do not live near one of these cities? I’d likely be flying out of Detroit. Do you recommend booking flights to one of these cities (e.g. LAX), and then booking a separate flight from LAX to Maui? Your help is appreciated! Thanks.

We’ll soon know more not just about the Southwest flights from California, but about how they will build flights from across their network. Otherwise, yes you can create a stopover. But when it isn’t a real stopover, their can be issues with inter-lining of checked bags, possibility of needing to re-enter security, issues with flight delays, etc. Not fun, and usually saves little to nothing. Airlines have this wired.

Thanks the the heads up on this sale! I scored a $129 fare in May from San Diego to Maui. Return is Saturday of Memorial Day weekend but, I still got a $167 fare into Oakland! Woot, woot! Keep up the great work Beat of Hawaii!

Hello – I was hoping you can help me. I am looking to fly from San Diego to Oahu late July 2019. We are a family of five so I am waiting for the best deal possible. Right now the cheapest is around $552-$650 but I am hoping for cheaper option. Will SWA release cheaper rates for July or do you think it’ll stay around the same price range for July? Any advice you can provide would be great!

For that route and your dates, we’d suggest you hang out for just a bit and see what happens. You may be pleasantly surprised. Competition from San Diego will be significant.

We are looking at attending my cousin’s wedding the weekend after Labor Day in September 2019. We’d be flying from Seattle to Kahului. Any suggestions on when the best time to buy typically falls? We are relatively flexible in our travel dates so we can avoid weekend travel. Please advise!

Should work out, especially if you can fly both ways mid-week. Expect best airfares about 90 days in advance. We keep a close watch on airfares from Seattle.

Hi everyone, looking for a cheap flight from chattanooga, TN to Kahului, Maui for 2 ladies…. I have already booked a condo and taking a friend with me. Any ideas on how to get cheap tickets… they are so expensive …. leaving Monday june 10 and returning Friday or Saturday June 21 or 22… must be back at work on the morning of the 24th.. any help appreciated.

That’s running about $900. Not sure that it will improve by waiting or not. Dates aren’t ones you’d pick for finding cheaper airfares. For example, early May is running almost $250 less RT.

We have booked a cruise on poa for Aug 17th 2019.
We are looking to fly to Honolulu on Aug 13 (tue) and return on Aug 24 (sat). We don’t have much flexibility on the travel dates. The airports we are considering to fly out of are Washington Dulles, Baltimore, or Philadelphia. Right now, the fares we are seeing are around $950. Do you think the fares will be better in early 2019 or should we book now? Thanks in advance for your reply. Btw we are a group of 9 people in case that matters.

We’re seeing $792 from IAD or $839 with good connection from PHL on multiple airlines. Yes it could well improve if you wait, but that is anything but guaranteed. Depends on your appetite for the unknown in waiting.

Rarely if ever do you see any specials from HAL or ASA flying out of SMF to HI. I can’t wait for SWA begin flying to the islands!
