  1. Thank you, that is exactly what we are doing. Waiting. The event we were basing or entire trip around (and only getting half our money back for 🙁 ) was cancelled. I don’t want to cancel anything else ourselves yet since it’s still a little under 2 months out. I want to make sure we get as much as we can back, if that is going to be the case. I appreciate the reinforcement that we are making the right decision in this. How did we get here??? I still can’t wrap my head around it. I hope you and your family are safe, stress free and healthy. Mahalo, Erin

  2. I just want to offer my thanks to your comments regarding the questions from the folks re their travel to your beautiful islands.

  3. Alhoa, Mahalo Nui Loa for all you do on this site. I have refereed many to it for your awesome information. I’ll share my recent experience. We were to travel out to the Big Island from Chicago on Wednesday March 18 to start a 13 day trip which was to complete on Maui, there were 12 ( 10 adults 2 kids) of us in total. I rescheduled it figuring it was going to get worse before it got better. I have an awesome condo owner on Maui that I have worked with for 3 years on VRBO and he refunded our entire reservation, understanding that this was getting worse. We were told that I have to use the airfare by middle of May because I booked this in May 2019. Our air and hotel at the Hilton on the BI was moved out 6 weeks (we are hopeful). As of now this isn’t looking good and if this continues I may be out the airfare. If not, I will continue to move this out as it’s looking like the kiddos might not be back in school anytime soon. As a plus, there’s finally good airfare out of Chicago to Hawaii and May is a wonderful time to visit Hawaii.

  4. We have return flights booked from OGG to Lihue on May16th back May20 but we bought insurance. Will we get insurance fees back?

  5. Aloha..we have plans to visit Kaui..april 28 to may 7th to get a refund from.vrbo we need to cancel by march 28th ..just wondering what to do at this point! We really want to keep our plans but not sure what to do at this point.

    1. Hi Shelly.

If you’re asking for our gut feeling, it would be to cancel unless something changes prior to that cancellation date. No one really knows at this point.

      Aloha.

  6. I just cancelled my trip that was scheduled next week. So sad! But I have faith that this will pass and we will be able to go to Beautiful Hawaii soon!

  7. Thank you for this timely article. Two sets folks back in Missouri have plans for May and have asked “what to do?” This is perfect.

    1. Just cancelled 3 different accommodation reservations, 1 in Honolulu, 1 in Laie, and the other on Molokai. All refunded us 100%. Appreciate the Aloha spirit even when it’s hurting their bottom line!
