  1. Dear BOH, I have another question. On the website for Hawaii it says to take test 72 hours for final leg of trip before departure for Hawaii. So this means that a person with a connecting flight to Honolulu would have to leave airport to go to a accepted test site, do test, get results, then go back to airport they will leave from? Is this correct?! Could you please answer when you get a chance!♡ Mahalo & God bless you!! 😍

    1. Hi Andrea.

You get your test at your origination point. You just need to be sure that the test is taken within 72 hours of the actual departure of that final mainland to Hawaii flight.

Thanks for your hundreds of comments!

      Aloha.

      1. Dear BOH, okay just to clarify you are saying that a person gets the test done in the city they live in? If so I’ve been thinking all along the other way I wrote about….oops, lol! That is why people need to ask. 🤔I enjoy reading all the messages in blog. Malaho!! I think this is the last question I have for now, I think. God bless!

        1. Hi Andrea.

Thanks. Most people who get tested do so in their originating (home) departure city, yes. You don’t have to, but if not you’ll have to figure out a rapid testing option en route.

It’s just the “within 72 hours of your mainland to Hawaii departure time” that you need to pay special attention to. Hope that makes sense – let us know if not.

          Aloha.

          1. Dear BOH, the way you described the answer I understood it completely now! Hopefully I will be able to come next year as planned!♡♡ 😍

          2. The travel rules to Hawaii keep changing. Check back a few weeks before your planned trip to see the current travel rules.

      2. Dear BOH Bros, I saw the link & took a screenshot of it. Thank you! God bless & many blessings to you😇

  2. Even those that have been vaccinated are getting what most likely is the Delta Variant!!!! EVERYONE should be tested regardless!!!!!

  3. Interesting that the Lt Governor is finally getting on board with IGE. Hawaii needs to do what Hawaii needs to do! Outdoor mask mandate I would disagree with.

  4. Someone asked earlier about wristbands on UAL:
Yes UAL does offer preflight wristband that gets you through quickly after landing. Get to your airport early enough to ask at which gate the screening is given. At SFO it was gate 16 last week

    1. What about Delta at LAX? Do they offer pre-flight wristbands? We are heading to the Big Island in a few weeks, and we are flying Delta.

      1. I’m compelled to comment for a little comic relief.

Lets hope you are not flying ‘Delta’ if you catch my drift…

        Aloha and safe travels

      1. the wrist band is a pre approval for when you arrive in hawaii that you have passed all protocols and you get right in without further delay. Dont have one you will be delayed in the airport

      2. The airline checks everything before you board, then gives you a wristband. then when you arrive in Hawaii, you don’t have to wait in the long line.

  5. This is so true from the third paragraph above: ‘This is especially true for returning residents (and visiting family)to whom perhaps are the bulk of the current problem is attributable.’ I know of several returning residents/visiting family who profess that they quarantined by staying in a room or rental for ten days but yet they stopped ‘at Costco’s to get supplies on their way from the airport and have friends and family come visit them to talk story or have a party while in quarantine. My tutu would say: ‘no be lolo’…Keep up the good work, B of H….

  6. With the latest news from the CDC on Covid tests, are there any changes to testing requirements coming to Hawaii?

  7. I am on the Big Island right now (7/26/21). It’s scary how many people defiantly refuse to wear a mask. We were in Kona today running errands. The maskless were all older people (over 55) and younger (30-something) residents. Multiple times we witnessed shop/restaurant workers asking these people to put on their masks. “Oh, I left it in the car”; “can’t you just seat me real quick?”; “masks don’t work and you can’t make come wear one”.

Please wear your masks! The sooner you do, the sooner we can ALL take them off. Mahalo.

    1. Masks have not really worked have they my dear. 18 months in to this thing and we are back to the masks. In the end, it may be those demanding masks will have safe zones to huddle up in. We are learning lots of lessons.

      1. What makes you say that? I love how people take success, and make it into failure. What Hawaii has done so far has kept the virus manageable in their state. They need to do that due to their isolation and the fact that they have limited hospital capacity. What should be obvious was that they “opened up” too soon. They should have waited until, as they originally planned, more than 60% of their population was vaccinated, and better yet that 70% number. What you see now is the result of a new variant, that’s actually more than 2 times as contagious as the original, combined with loosened restrictions around masks and social distancing. I get that it was hurting the economy, but what good is a booming economy if everyone is sick or dying?

      2. masks HAVE worked. The problem is those who refuse to wear them. I have not had a cold or flu for 18 months. I have been around several positive covid people with my mask. I have been tested a number of times. Guess what the mask protected me. Stop spreading misinformation please.

      3. masks do and have been working however and I am guessing you are one there are many who refused all along to wear one. Refused to socially distance and now we also know the reason we are back to mask is because so many have refused to get vaccinated. Please get vaccinated.
Im sure you would not mind your doctor or nurse sneezing on you in the hospital right/

    2. Hahahaha..”the sooner we wear them the sooner we can take them off…”

What, 18 months wasn’t quite long enough?

      🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

      1. Sean,

Masks work, which is why you need to get the vaccine.

The vaccines work, which is why you need to wear a mask.

        Hope that helps

      2. no its not because people like you refused to get vaccinated and spread the virus variant rampant. You refused to socially distance and wear a mask. If only all of you would get the vaccine and do what you need to do to keep others around you safe we would have been out of this by now.

    3. So only those between 40 and 54 are responsible you say? Geezaloo how prejudiced/ignorant/self-righteous!

  8. Aloha,
I visited Kauai the week of July 4, and had to pre-test before arrival. It was simple and easy, and it made me feel better flying from California for 5 hours to know that at least 72 hours prior to take-off, everyone flying with me was negative for Covid.

Even though both my friend and I have been vaccinated and tested negative, we wore masks at all times indoors during our visit, even though some places hardly anyone was. It seems only polite and right.

I support any and all safety measures to keep locals safe, and keep anti-vaxxer and entitled jerks out of the islands. The rest of us who respect and love Hawaii will do what it takes. 🙂

    Mahalo!

    1. With less than 60% of Hawaiian residents vaccinated, it doesn’t appear that over 40% of Hawaiians respect and love Hawaii.

    2. Whoa, you started off well, then minimized and dehumanized a group of people for making a choice that was available to all.
      Not Aloha.

    3. As the article says many residents are NOT getting tested and supposedly quarantining instead so unfortunately what you say is probably not true

    4. Dear Debbie, I’m suppose to be going to Hawaii in April(2022) for my lifelong dream vacation trip but when December rolls around I’m going to reevaluate the situation. Maybe by then things will have been smoothed out & I can still come. I’m very excited for whenever I can come!😍🌺🐠🐢🌊🏖🍍🥥🌎☀️🌈💺🛩 If I had one wish it would be that covid never existed for health reasons, then travel! Stay safe & God bless you….Psalms 91:11

  9. Aloha BOH Bro’s

As documented early last week my un-vaccinated daughter was stuck in Mexico with a positive covid test. Surprisingly she showed up at Sac Metro airport around mid-night last Tuesday with full blown covid.

They’d bribed local officials to get on the plane…….I can’t tell you how disappointed I was in learning that.

That was the tipping point for me….Last Friday I got my first vaccine shot second shot will be 13th of August.

    1. Hi Richard.

Thanks for that update. Wow. We hope everyone involved will be okay.

      Aloha.

      1. They should have kept the testing in place. That would prove it isn’t the tourists spreading covid and no one to blame except the unvaccinated and untested being the ones that are spreading the virus. An entire plane full of negative test people shouldn’t be the ones made to suffer while spending tons of money in Hawaii.

        1. A negative PCR test from a “trusted partner” performed within 72 hours of your flight to Hawaii is still required to avoid 10 days locked in a room, aka, quarantine. A recent exception to the testing requirement is if one can demonstrate with a little slip of paper that they received the vaccine. I believe Hawaii is the only state left that requires quarantine for domestic travelers. It is only (unvaccinated) Hawaii residents who are not bothering with testing and opt instead for “quarantine.” You don’t need to subject vaccinated tourists to ongoing trusted partner tests to prove this.

  10. I know public health is critical, but Hawaii’s flip flop nature (no, not the beach sandals) is super frustrating. We’re coming in a week and a half- all vaccinated, but should they require those tests, too, it’s going to be challenging to get an appointment. I hope the powers who be think about the several thousands of dollars people are spending to get there and give target dates for requirements that give travelers ample time to plan ahead.
    Mahalo

    1. Hey Deb,
I don’t know where you are flying from, but there are a TON of providers doing Covid tests that align with the Safe Travels program. We can’t control the flip-flopping of the politicians (the state Governor disagrees with some of the island mayors, etc…!) but we CAN control keeping ourselves and the locals who live in Hawaii safe. It’s the Aloha spirit. 🙂

      Have a wonderful time!

      1. Deb,
We flew to Oahu 6/4 We tested right at the airport 72 hours ahead of time via a testing company that Hawaiian Air recommended. It was super easy we self tested right in our own car and were out of there in 15 minutes. We had our results in 10 hours and it cost us 90.00 each. Once we got our negative results we were given a qr code which you can print or use on your smart phone. We stopped at the check in they gave us wrist bands which scooted us right past many who did not have pre clearance. Have fun and know you will enjoy Hawaii. Anything we needed to do we were willing to.

          1. The trip was wonderful. Easy into the airport. Right to the rental car agency, then onto the condo. WE spent time at the beach and waikiki, drove the entire island along the ocean. Tons of things to do though some of the things we were hoping to do were all booked up as we got there right as things were starting to open up. If you have any specific questions I am happy to fill you in 🙂

          2. Dear Paul C, so Walgreens is on the list as a trusted partner for Hawaii for the covid test? I think I read that American Family Care…urgent care….is on the list? Is that correct Paul? Thank you. God bless you😍

          3. Paul C…..how did you get treated in general? I’ve been reading about how some residents aren’t nice.

          4. Paul C….I will go to Hawaii when it will be meant for me to go, but it sure is frustrating because I’m trying to be patient! When December rolls around I’m going to reevaluate situation because that is when I will need to get tickets to go in April.

          5. Paul C….well whenever I do go I will indeed have booked my tours well in advance. I’ve been doing my research, lol!

          6. Aloha Paul C, here is my itinerary: Pearl Harbor because I’ve always wanted to pay my respects because my Grandfather was in Navy & in Pearl Harbor, Waikiki beach, Iolani Palace, Waikiki aquarium, zoo, Leonard’s bakery, foster botanical gardens, Bishop Museum, Ala Moana center, Aloha tower, Henry’s place, & Polynesian Cultural Center. There it is😄

    2. Hi,
This has been my worry as well. We’re coming in 1 week and we’re fully vaccinated. I’m worried about trying to find a place to test us 72 hours in advance if they make that mandatory again.

      1. I would just have a negative covid test ready 72 hours ahead of time. Wallgreens and some other pharmacies do it for free and turn around is usually less than 24 hours.

      2. Dear Lexi, I’ve read many comments about the test & lots of people haven’t had a big problem with it. I know it can be stressful & worrisome!
