  1. I recently read about Aloha Safe phone app and was led to believe it is required/still required. Yet, I have not read anything within your email writings or anywhere else. Didnt see anything on SafeTravels.

What is the status of this contact tracing app and whether out remains mandated?

    1. Hi Craig.

We have not heard a word about its use for months. So as far as we know or anyone has commented, it does not appear to be required. In fact, based on what others have said, we aren’t sure it ever was.

      Aloha.

      1. I downloaded the Aloha Safe Alert app many months ago. Periodically my phone alerts me that it’s “checking exposures”. (Not much good since you need to be in close contact with someone who has the app, who tested positive, and whose result is reflected in the app.) With Omicron, it’s outdated. But…the app has links to copious information & statistics about Hawaii cases, trends, vaccinations, etc., statewide and island-by-island – quite useful and interesting.

    2. On our last trip to Maui, no one checked to see if we had the Aloha Safe app. Not sure why the county website said it was mandatory.

We’ll be on Maui in 2 weeks. I never deleted the app from my phone, so I guess I’m still “legal” for Maui.

      1. Do you understand how apps work? Trust me they knew you were there and yes you should still be good with the app

        1. Do you understand you have to enable the app after installation? You do know how exposure detection works?

    3. I have been to Maui many times during COVID as my family lives there. Nobody has ever asked about the tracking app although from what I read, They make is sound like it I s required.

  2. Anyone know if United, in Denver, has resumed giving out wrist bands? And if so where are they available in the airport? At the gate, etc? I transfer in Denver for my flight to Maui. Thanks in advance.

  3. Where I live in CA, there are many positive cases of Covid, but the number needing to be hospitalized is small. This conforms to virus behavior….each mutation is more contagious but less deadly. There are many cases of fully vaccinated and boostered people getting the virus. The rules here for people who might have gotten exposed are strict so many healthy hospital workers can’t go to work. I’m guessing that’s true in Hawaii as well. We need herd immunity!

  4. I’m getting my booster 1-29-22. We arrive in Kauai on 2-8-22. I have searched many sites and can’t find the answer to my question so I’m really hoping someone here can help 😁 is there a timeframe after vaccination before being considered fully vaccinated?! Is 10 days enough?!

    1. In the recent past it has been 14 days prior to getting to Hawaii. I cannot say for sure that its still that

      1. sorry, i miss read your question. I do not think the booster has a time frame requirement, only a first dose inoculation

    2. I think it is 14 days, so you need to get it 15 days in advance of traveling. There may be a grace period from the time it goes into effect to accommodate those arriving around the time the new rules take effect.

    3. Found this on the Kauai COVID page which is before this latest booster rule, but gives you an idea how many days are needed.

Travelers are considered fully vaccinated on the 15th day after their second dose in a 2-dose series, like the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or on the 15th day after a single-dose vaccine, like Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.

    4. hawaiicovid19.com/travel website indicates 14 days. “Individuals arriving from the U.S. or its Territories who are fully vaccinated may enter Hawaiʻi without pre-travel testing/quarantine starting the 14th day after the completion of their vaccination.”

      1. I believe (hope) that the “after 14 days” refers to the original shot(s) as opposed to so-called booster shots, since that was written prior to booster shots being required.

Is there supposed to be some sort of “only effective after” date of these shot(s)?

We’re scheduled to arrive Kauai on the 28th, and may may need to move that date up a day or two, depending on when Ige makes this effective.

  5. regarding the new booster requirement: is this to be able to fly/arrive in Hawaii or to partake in indoor activities? What if the time lapse between 2nd shot and booster hasn’t elapsed yet? For example, 2nd shot on January 14, then flying to Hawaii in February? Currently supposed to wait 5 months to get a booster after your 2nd shot.

    1. I have this same question. 1 family member got their 2nd dose in July and was told can get the booster after 6-7+ months after. Another family member just got his second dose yesterday. Trip is in a few weeks?

  6. Could you please tell me — if a tourist becomes covid-positive during their stay, where does the 5-10 day isolation take place? We have a trip planned for Jan 28 – one week Maui and one week Big Island. Becoming covid-positive while there is by far my biggest concern. Our group is triple-vaxxed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get covid! Thank you!

    1. Hi Glenna.

It is our understanding that it is self isolation nowadays rather than early in Covid when there were specific properties.

      Aloha.

      1
    2. That pretty much cuts to the chase on this whole issue doesn’t it? You’re triple vaxxed so you are realistically safe from getting sick, at worst mild symptoms and yet you do have a chance of testing positive if you get tested. Clearly don’t get tested if you don’t have symptoms.

  7. Just learned a new tip for getting the wrist band. Been flying HA and they’ve been great doing it at the gate, turns out you can get the wrist band at the front counter as well as at the departure gate, potentially saving you some time if they are short staffed at the gate. This was in SEA

    1. Per latest email from Victoria at HawaiiGuide, the booster shot is not required to travel to Maui, but to get into restaurants and bars.

Copied from the email I received: Effective on Maui beginning January 8, 2022, the definition of ‘fully vaccinated’ will now include getting a booster shot to further increase immunity against COVID-19. This change primarily affects bars, restaurants, and gyms. To the best of our knowledge, this rule change does NOT affect Safe Travels to Maui at this time.

  8. I am on the mainland and coming home latter this month. I dont have the booster. However I did get the two doses of moderna in Maui.

To fly to Maui do I now need to get the test from a “trusted partner”?

I just am not clear on it.

  9. I’m on the Safe Travels site and it’s making me upload CommomPass, which then is requiring me to complete the Travel and Health form. I thought I could skip all of that? Where can I just upload my vaccination information ? Thanks!

    1. Hi Jennifer.

There is no requirement for CommonPass. This is where you need to go. Should be simple as widely reported, especially since the elimination of the health questionnaire and the immediate generation of the needed QR code. https://travel.hawaii.gov/#/.

      Aloha.

      1. Do people need to upload their cdc vaccine card to the safe travels website what
If its already on the safe travels website from the trip before
        Thank you
