As a new subscriber, I’d say give these social misfits no publicity or credence but instead let’s start prosecuting them for trespassing and ill regard for laws and local culture!
I’m an old man of 69 but I was taught that you obey laws and rules, you don’t cause damage to property or persons Ever! There is no being entitled! I’m sick of the “well it’s ok” attitude! Life has rules and there are consequences if you don’t follow them. In the end we will all lose the ability to visit beautiful and serene places because of this behavior! Makes me sad and Angry all rolled into one!
Aloha Rob and Jeff. Well, once again the only remedy to stop this indulgence on “me” people is to locate them through their videos and then send them a hefty fine for disobeying the rules. Is that even a possibility to do? Now I really think that the person who needs to be rescued should pay full cost for their rescue. At least he didn’t fly his drone. But I am sure he will. Aloha and Mahalo for your updates. Looking forward to coming over next month for safe and legal activities.
Thank you. The state DLNR mentioned that when they post a comment requesting the trespassing images be taken down, that is often met by either disregard or their comment being deleted.
…Or we can just send them into space. Isn’t that the new frontier for travel? The best selfies can be taken there. And then let’s see if they can find their way back.
Uuuuumm YES and Facebook too they need to stop marketing our islands and start showing how visitors can contribute to the island in more ways than just money
Utah is also being loved to death. It breaks my heart to see how worn down the ‘hoodoos’ are getting at Goblin Valley State Park. Instagrammers and ‘mommy-bloggers’ with their selfies and maps have ruined access to many lakes, campgrounds, and trails. People seem to have little to no respect for the land and leave garbage, damaged facilities and natural resources. It is now necessary to have a reservation to visit Arches National Park. The local canyons are being over-run to the point that a gondola system is being considered for little cottonwood canyon to help mitigate the traffic snarl that ensues during the winter months. Sadly, more enforcement is needed to keep the trespassers and vandals in check. Let’s do better America.
My favorite selfie story occurred when we were at the Grand Canyon last year. A young lady decided to jump a barrier and go out on a cliff with a 500-foot dropoff to take a selfie. What’s more amusing was that she was donning a covid mask. A loss of balance would have resulted in her falling to her death. But hey, she had her mask on.
What’s really distressing about your story is that if one of these idiots gets injured or stranded, the first responders have to risk their lives to save them.
I was recently at Picture Rocks national park when someone broke their leg after climbing over a barrier and climbing down cliff. Multiple people had to repel down this cliff to get him.
We need a law that says if you break the law or trespass and get injured…you will bare the Full cost of rescue and rehabilitation of yourself and any damaged environment. First responder time and materials included.
I must be really, really old. My wife and I hardly ever get pictures of us on any trip; no proof we were actually there. We do share pictures on Facebook; fish, birds. turtles, whates, and stuff like that.
Yes.

Hi Debra.
Thank you. The state DLNR mentioned that when they post a comment requesting the trespassing images be taken down, that is often met by either disregard or their comment being deleted.
Aloha.
I thinking tracking them down in social media and fining them is a great idea.

Hawaii isn’t the only place that has been ruined by the Insta crowd. The list is endless. What is wrong with those people?
Terrible parenting

Not only that, but they’ll probably try to sue the state for not employing more effective meawsures to protect them from their own stupidity.

Not on Instagram and never will be. A complete waste as far as I’m concerned!!
