Hawaii And Korea Move Closer

In some much needed good news for Hawaii’s tourism-based economy yesterday, we began to see the fruition of our State’s work to encourage travel between Hawaii and Korea.

  1. Hawaiian Airlines is seeking approval to serve Seoul directly from Honolulu.
  2. Starting June 15, Hawaiian wants to significantly expand their code-share agreement with Korean Airlines.

It was almost a year ago today that I first mentioned:

“Korea. Last month an agreement was reached between Korea and the U.S., encouraged by Hawaii officials, to allow Korean citizens to visit the U.S. without requiring visas.”

We can now look forward to easy connections and reasonably-priced stopovers in Hawaii en route between North America and Korea. Perhaps Honolulu-Seoul will be one of the first routes on which Hawaiian intends to use their new Airbus 330-200’s, still scheduled for delivery next year.
