  1. Too late, we already changed our trip that was scheduled for 3 weeks beginning August 1. We are heading to Florida instead. Our doctor told us yesterday that if we have no symptoms, we can’t buy a test. So something needs to change on that issue.

  2. Someone posted, I think on here. “Hawaii will reopen when the extra $600 a week free money from the Government expires”. I guess they were spot on. How funny.

  3. So many unanswered questions.
    1. Where to get tested.
    2. When will tests be available to those not showing symptoms?
    3. Will tests and their results be available within three days for those traveling Monday’s, Tuesday’s, or Wednesday’s?
    4. If tests come back positive, will travelers get their airline payments, rental car prepay’s, and resort/hotel deposits returned to them?
    5. Will resorts, hotels, vacation rentals waive cancellation fees if travelers test positive?
    6. Will airlines require tests before returning to the mainland and if so, will CVS and whoever else have enough test kits to handle the 30,000 average number of travelers per day?
    7. How much will the tests cost, especially if you want a less than three day turnaround?

Lots of things to address before this is implemented.

  4. This is good news, although “the devil is in the details”. There are some great flight deals to HI in August (at least as of two days ago. Getting a 72 hour commitment on a C0VID test is a challenge – in NH (metro Boston) you still need a referral because of some compelling medical reason.

From the East Coast however – if I’m going to bother with the C0VID test I can go to other islands (e.g. St. Lucia) for half the flight time than HI.

I hope that HI can get back on its feet quickly.

  5. Looks like I’ll be redeeming my original cancelled tickets for another destination. Too much uncertainty. This could crush the local economy over there. Sad

  6. If you want are bessness in hawaii. Why should we pay for the test. Maybe you should look in to hawaii should pay for them

  7. Finally! This is such good news! We own vacation rentals on Maui and the financial impact has not only been devastating to us, but our cleaning crews, maintenance and landscapers. Each reservation that has been canceled affects the lives and dreams of the visitors who were coming – many were coming for weddings, some as a last vacation because of terminal illness, others it was a trip of a lifetime.
We’ve watched local restaurants and businesses close their doors & have seen many lose jobs and homes. FINALLY is the only word that comes to mind! It’ll be good to be back again. 🌺

  8. Just a comment. I think Hawaii is doing well compared to so many other states and hope they will continue with the self isolation for now. Safety and stopping the spread of c0vid is the priority, unlike in so many other states. We are hoping for travel in the spring, from Canada. Thank you.

  9. Aloha, As usual I appreciate your notifications and updates. I’m sure it takes a lot of “on your toes” due to quick changes during this difficult time. I am flying to my condo I purchased finally! When they say 72 hours prior to travel, meaning if I leave August 13, then have ‘results’ 3 days prior to that date? So I can get tested a week before and hope for results within 3-4 days? I understand things might change again, but trying to arrange my testing here in the Virgin islands early. Mahalo for all your hard work keeping us informed.

    1. Hi Jodie.

We will have clarification on testing and timing requirements very soon.

      Thank you.

      Aloha.
