  1. Now I’m not sure my 3rd rescheduled Kauai trip will actually happen in September if restrictions stay in place. Supposedly enough vaccine for the entire country will be available by the summer according to the latest news. Will that change these restrictions?? If not, then I don’t know what will. Best wishes to all.

  2. we would love to come back for the eighth time, but are not sure when its safe for vacation. .thank you for the information.

  3. It will be interesting to see if all of this actually happens. We still plan a trip to see our kids in June, have reservations and plane tickets. Since we are fully vaccinated, and Dr. Fauci seems to think that the vaccinations are successful in controlling the virus (no data yet–just his opinion), hopefully Gov. Ige will agree to the vaccination passport.

Can’t tell you how much we appreciate your keeping us up to date on this process. I don’t know of another source that does such a good job. Mahalo.

    1. Hi Lee.

Thanks for that and for all your comments. It is sure looking up (as of this afternoon’s announcement re Kauai) for your June trip. Please let us know how that goes.

      Aloha.

  4. All the while it is the people who suffer. Politics should not play a part with this. It’s pretty simple: Small business owners must be able to continue their business; Life needs to return to normal; vacationers/owners want to come back to Hawaii and the businesses need them to; In what we have long thought is a free society, there should be no rules forcing vaccinations or restricting businesses to continue, or U.S. citizens to travel freely about the U.S.

  5. I hope some sense of normalcy can come to the islands by September, if not much, much sooner. We have our annual September trip to Kaua’i already booked. I had assumed that since most everyone, especially vulnerable people, would be vaccinated by then that it would business as usual for our trip. I’m not so sure now. Unimpeded interisland travel for those vaccinated would help as we always go over to Oahu for a couple of days at the end of our trip, assuming it would apply to everyone vaccinated, not just Hawaii residents. Having just returned from Maui last week, I can say the Safe Travels program works easily enough, but it really is time to move on.

Mahalo, BOH for keeping us informed!

    1. Hi Ed.

Thanks. Yes, it seems that by then we should be in another place – hopefully. We look forward to your being able to return to Kauai.

      Aloha.

    2. News release just sent. Mayor has sent to Governor Ige that Ksuai is reentering safe travel program as of April 4th so no more quarantine

  6. The state of Texas governor just announced that no masks are required!!! “Removing state mandates does not end personal responsibility. Abbot said, people and businesses don’t need the state telling them how to operate”. Ok Hawaii governor your turn.

    1. Dear Mark,

The great State of Texas has a governor that didn’t believe that cold weather would shut down their independent electrical grid, even after cold weather has shut down their grid TWICE before. So, he thinks that taking off masks in Texas on March 10th will stop the coronavirus from spreading among Texans? This guy has gone cuckoo for cocoa puffs!

  7. Well I can tell you this. If there is no vaccination exemption by our cancel date – we will cancel again for the third time. Ige has been awesome for my wallet. I have cancelled three 2 week trips home with my family since COVID started. Thanks to Ige, I was able to buy a TV, BBQ, Home Gym, and pay off my new truck. Awesome. Except all that money would have been going to the Hawaii economy – but HEY! He doesn’t care. He can stay super safe and I can keep my hard earned money.

  8. The most painful part of this aricle is that it could have been dated October 15 or even much earlier. Nothing has really changed. How painful it must be for stakeholders in this nightmare.

    Mahalo!

    1. Hi Jon.

Yes, it does sometimes feel like progress is coming at a snail’s pace.

      Aloha.
