  1. Thank you so much for the current updates. I am so anxious to return to Kauai that I have already purchased airline tickets and reserved my place to stay for me and my family in August.

    Mahalo!

  2. Aloha BOH,

You have done a stellar job in keeping us up-to-date, literally up-to-the-moment with the rapid changes in Hawaii’s travel restrictions. Big Mahalo! Looking forward returning and sharing aloha. Stay safe (and dry!)

    1. Hi Julianna.

Thanks. We appreciate your many comments. We too look forward to your returning.

      Aloha.

  3. OT – but looks like the road between Princeville and the Hanalei river bridge just fell into the ravine, which means all parts of Kauai west of the bridge are cut-off. There is no alternative route for vehicles. One of our neighbors summarized succinctly with: “We’re F%#*ed”

They had done a huge up slope stabilization project after the last big slides (2018), but I recall someone saying the downslope side was still vulnerable.

  4. You guys are incredibly punny. And those double entendres are just amazing!!🌺🌺

In this era of ever changing new plans, I’m especially grateful for you and your reporting!

    Have a blessed day!!

  5. The state of Hawaii really needs to listen to the CDC and let travelers come to all the islands to enjoy vacations. My wife and I have both been vacanited and will arrive on APRIL 4. Hawaii is closing the Resort bubble on that date yet I was told anyone arriving on April 4 has to be quarantined for 3 days. This makes no sense. If the Resort bubble ends on April 5 why do we have to stay there and be quarantined. These leaders in Hawaii need to get there act together if they want people to come and spend there money

  6. Yay! Keeping my fingers crossed! It will be close for me since I just qualified for the vaccine and waiting to be scheduled but hubby got the 2nd today. Hope Hawaii follows suit but will test if not. Thank you for all the information you provide, it is very much appreciated. Can’t wait for May!

    1. Hi Jo.

Thanks. News on this is moving quickly, so one way or the other, we should hear more from the state before you travel in May.

      Aloha.

  7. Great news! Life is returning to some level of normalcy for many! 1 year ago the WHO declared a pandemic, what a year. I wish you health.

  8. YAY! Glad to see things are moving forward. Last summer I missed my first trip to Kauai in 33yrs. I am starting to recover from that loss and am now hopeful my trip in Aug. will be amGo. Mahalo BOH for all of your updates. I greatly appreciate it.

  9. Great news!! Now move it hawaii. Follow good examples. Get on board and start saving your economy!!! Mahalo

  10. Last year, it was obvious starting in April that Hawaii would need to set up some pre-travel testing program, but they waited until September to actually really work on setting up the logistics, delaying the rollout substantially. And now it’s been obvious since December that vaccination verification will be needed for full recovery in Hawaii travel, but so far it’s just a bunch of talk.

A large and rapidly growing portion of the US is now fully vaccinated and looking for a place to travel with their newfound freedom. That place could easily be Hawaii for a large portion of them, but only if Hawaii actually gets moving on setting up the logistics.

    1. Indeed the rate of vaccinations is climbing rapidly. That is true. ~10% of the U.S. adult population has completed its full vaccination. That is not disclosed in your assumption that 10% represents a “large population”. With epidemiologist estimates that somewhere around 75% of the population needs to be vaccinated before declaring some victory, we are a ways away from that goal. With up to 1/3 of adults polled saying that they will not get vaccinated or are unsure, we may never reach that goal.
