  1. Aloha!

We are planning a trip from DC to Honolulu on March 27-April 4th. I see some flights for $813. Is that a good price for that time period? Or should we wait? Thank you!

    1. Hi Cindy.

Well coincidentally today we have a sale from DC. So you see how good fares can be. However, your dates are at spring break and that is always significantly more money. Low $800’s is fair for mid-week at holiday period. Not sure it will improve.

Moreover consider the nonstop at $870 RT. For hardly any more, you’ll save 5+ hours in each direction. Suggest buying that.

      Aloha.

      1. Hi! THANK YOU so much for your reply. I ended up booking a flight on September 10th. American Airlines had a sale out of the blue. Anyway, I paid $655 for round trip DCA to HNL. It does have one layover. I thought that was a good price during spring break. We putchased 3 tickets so we saved quite a bit. Thanks again…

  2. I must be doing something wrong. As soon as I receive the Beat of Hawaii email–I immediately click on the route I want within the dates mentioned and never see anything close to the prices mentioned. The price I see available is between $230 and $237-Seattle to Hilo. Cheapest I can find is $674. I have tried one way and round trip and no luck. Am I missing something?

  3. Hi, we’re traveling from Oak or San Jose to Honolulu mid November. I found flights for about $376. Should I wait or get these flights. Just wondering if prices will down…your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    1. Hi Karen.

That is too hard to call. Could go either way. Might have Southwest by then but then again no one knows. Bird in hand theory suggests buying.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello,
We have a family of 5 traveling from Sacramento, Oakland or SF to Maui (OGG) the month of July for 9 days. What kind of prices could we expect per person? Any suggestions on the best travel dates during this month?

    Much thanks,
    Jennifer N

    1. Hi Jennifer.

Could be “some” benefit from Southwest flying then, so do wait. We’d anticipate $400’s to $500’s for July. Later in July may be better than early July.

      Aloha.

  5. Mahalo for your hard work!
You think these price wars may continue into the fall? We are really crammed in our schedule so maybe a mid Oct trip to Kauai (from LAX), if we can get it would be a nice get away.

Also, has Lane contributed to any issues on Kauai? I always wonder if that influences the fare wars. Our Ohana is looking forward to it!!

    1. Hi Jon.

Thank you. Yes there’s a very good chance of the September fares being extended into October. No guarantee, but that is our sense.

Lane was just very wet on Kauai. Doubtful that is influencing prices however.

      Aloha.

  6. Aloha,

I need some advice for two adults traveling from Wisconsin to Kauai Jan 13 thru Jan 23, 2019. We are a bit flexible by a day or two either way. We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and are looking for flights and a car. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Barb

  7. Mahalo for your amazing blog, I have actually found my last (super cheap) air dare deal s through your website and the alerts I had signed up for! Love it!
I’m planning on moving to Maui in January, therefore looking for a one-way flight from Chicago to Maui (both airports work) any time between January 2-12. I’ve been waiting on Chicago deals, since that’s the kind of deal I found last time via Beat of Hawaii (with delta Airlines, stop in Seattle). I’m also hoping southwest airlines announcing their flights will help with this, but not sure since they’re flying from the west coast. Question is :Should I keep waiting for deals for Chicago specifically or book as soon as possible? I’d be extremely thankful for your input!
Thank you in advance, and Mahalo for everything you do!

    1. Hi Bea.

Thanks very much. SWA is sure a possibility, albeit unknown until announced. Most reasonable at the moment in terms of both price and duration/convenience is still Delta via Seattle for $371. Might improve if you wait and doubtful of it getting worse. Suggest target of about $300. Let us know how it goes.

      Aloha.

  8. Thanks for all you do! I come on here daily 🙂 We are looking into traveling the week of Feb 16-24 to Honolulu. We can travel out of many different airports from Southern California LAX, San Diego, Long Beach, Palm Springs. Just wanted to get your thoughts on what a good deal (price range) would be, we are ready to buy tickets but trying to make sure we get a good deal. Appreciate all your work!

    Thanks,
    Ronnie

    1. Hi Ronnie.

Suggest waiting until after SWA announces since San Diego will be part of their equation. Target is under $300 round trip.

      Aloha.

  9. Hi- Family of 3 flying roundtrip SEA to OGG 11/6-11/15/18 (somewhat flexible on return date). Flying with kids so we need non-stop direct flights with no red-eyes. Prices were down to $535 each on Hawaiian Air. Please let me know if you think there’s any chance we can get an even better price if we wait? Thanks for any help 🙂

    1. Hi Amber.

The 15th is a bit problematic as it sits right before the beginning of Thanksgiving week. Hawaiian is not very competitive with Alaska/Delta out of SEA at the moment and that also has the possibility to change for the better.

      Aloha.

  10. My husband and I have a condo in Maui reserved Jan 29 to Feb 5 (Tues-Tues). We generally fly direct from PDX on Alaska, taking advantage of a companion pass and free checked bags because we have their credit card. Right now Alaska airfare (with companion pass!) is pricier than paying full price on Hawaiian. We are open to adding a day or so either side of our original dates to get the best fare during that timeframe. Would you book now, or wait a bit to see if things change?
