  1. Well, this is the nail in the coffin for me and my family. We came to Hawaii twice a year for 25 years. Primarily stay on Maui. We were always kind, respectful of the people and the land, tipped well and we supported financially Lahaina after the fire. But the last few visits we noticed a visible shift in the local’s attitude towards us, even racial slurs. If Hawaii is determined to destroy their economy, that’s fine. My business I can take elsewhere.

  2. “3 teen boys arrested” and released…on bond?

“The family believes they were singled out because they are white and urged investigators to pursue the case as a hate crime.”

“Police arrested four people total in the attack, which has not been classified as a hate crime.”

  3. When I was stationed in Hawaii, we had our own Marine Corps Protection Unit. The local ruffians would find themselves beat to a pulp after ganging up on hoale military. Same code in Guam, but in Guam, the Protection Unit was uniformed, with batons. Fun times.

  4. Used to visit Hawaii back in the 1970’s & ’80’s….and absolutely loved it! I was looking forward to one more trip there before I die…. Reading these newsletters has been very interesting, though. Hawaii doesn’t seem to be the same place I knew and loved way back…… Count me out for any more trips there. Between the high prices of everything in Hawaii and the attitudes of the locals….they can keep it. Sad.

  5. Does this mean anyone that books in a major resort might be subject to a surprise beat down? Sorry a 20 year old isn’t a teenager but a young adult which should be no break in the law. Most hotels should have camera’s in area’s of slip and fall or a chance of drowning for liability purposes. IMO if not the hotel is taking a big risk. Sorry to hear of this story but it might be food for thought next time one considers a Hawaiian vacation booking.

  6. It’s not an isolated incident. I lived in Hawaii for 5 years. This is fairly common. Also the same exact thing happened to my friend’s family a few months ago at the Ritz, same side of the Island. But they were harassed by three local teenage girls and one literally punched my friend in the face who was with her children. Same situation they were in the hot tub at night and the three local girls were trespassing on the hotel property. Nothing is done because all the locals know each other or are Aunty and Uncles. The islands are small communities.

    1. SF news is reporting that the ring leader was a girl. Maybe it’s the same roving band of miscreants. When I was hassled on the North Shore in the 70s it was always by local girls

  7. Remembering this is the same Police Chief of Maui who showed his incompetence every time he spoke after the fire And let’s not forget the buffoon who is still mayor. That’s who the people of Maui elected The high number of dumped cars all over the island proves the apathy
